Thanks Walker. I just discovered your podcast and listen to my first episode today, it was the Lyn Alden one. Great episode. These links are brilliant, will be on my catch up list

Meanwhile, local plumber with zero net worth buys real bitcoin over morning coffee

2. Morgan Stanley to Offer Bitcoin ETFs to Wealthy Clients: Morgan Stanley is allowing its 15,000+ financial advisers to sell shares of BlackRock's IBIT and Fidelity's FBTC, CNBC reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter. Clients will need to have a net worth of at least $1.5 million. (CoinDesk)

Great article Lynn, thank you. I’m looking to spend a large part of my time next year working with businesses in South Africa (my home country) to help them accept bitcoin as payment for goods and services. This will be a real answer to the question, ‘so once I have been paid in bitcoin , what do I do with it?’

I recently read an article by an economist calling himself a ‘real Keynesian’. This apparently means that you should print money to kick start a sluggish economy, but then you must pay it back when times are good. So my question is this: if you kick start an economy by printing money, and then when the economy is booming you remove the printed money, do you not then put the economy back where it was before? It sounds like a boost on false pretenses will not be sustained if the money is withdrawn. Am I missing something here? Any economists around that can help me with this? nostr:npub1a2cww4kn9wqte4ry70vyfwqyqvpswksna27rtxd8vty6c74era8sdcw83a

It’s not clear to me what LGBT and the Last Supper have to do with the Olympic Games. This is obviously meticulously planned, funded, and approved by the IOC.

The purposes of the modern olympic games

Based on the official Olympic Charter and various sources, the purposes of the modern Olympic Games can be summarized as follows:

Promoting Peace and International Understanding: The Olympic Games aim to bring nations together through sports, fostering respect, tolerance, and cooperation among countries and cultures.

Harmonious Development of Humankind: The Olympic Movement seeks to promote a balanced development of the body, personality, and mind through sport, education, and culture.

Social Responsibility: The IOC encourages the values of Olympism to be practiced in society, emphasizing the importance of social responsibility, respect for universal fundamental ethical principles, and the preservation of human dignity.

Gender Equality: The Olympic Movement prioritizes gender equality, striving to increase access to sport for female athletes and promote women’s participation in sports administration and management.

Cultural Exchange and Education: The Games aim to blend sport with culture and education, promoting mutual understanding and respect among nations through the celebration of their diverse heritages.

Unifying the World through Sport: The Olympic Games provide a platform for athletes from around the world to come together, compete, and celebrate their shared humanity, transcending national and cultural boundaries.

Whoever got this so horribly wrong, and used this event to antagonize and offend the Christian people of the world, needs to apologize and then resign.

Funny enough, I was just listening to on of your latest podcasts and you were talking about retiring from international travel in the next year or so. I guess this the universe agreeing with you. I encourage you to take this as such a positive new direction in your life.

What makes Switzerland so forward thinking? I guess they have always been independent and kept out of the EU, but this is just next level

Argh, you will be sorely missed. Your show is the best #bitcoin podcast. Perfect mix of humour, great guests and topics. Not sure how this gap will be filled. Well done on a cracker of a show and all the best on your next adventure.

The old comments about how similar this space (BTC and Nostr) is to the early days of the internet, come to mind. Network effects are so hard for us to grasp. In the beginning it seems quirky and quaint, then suddenly it’s on everyone’s lips and it’s the ‘next big thing’. But the ‘suddenly’ part is actually years of hard work by people from all over contributing, sharing, helping and building. It reminds me of professional sports. By the time we, as the general public become aware of a new big name in sport, I can promise you it’s not because he or she decided yesterday to start training. The people that join in 10 years time will swept up in the network effect of this ‘new’ thing.

So I have to watch Tour de France highlights, from Peacock, on YouTube. And not on the Peacock app. 2nd or 3rd time I’ve had to do this. Lost control of your app, Peacock?

Have you read the books? The TV series is a shadow of the whole story. It’s incredible

Brilliant series. Reading about how the team was writing scripts on the fly, based on viewer responses to each episode added to the vibe. Some characters were only supposed to have a one or two episode appearance but went on to becoming major characters. Great writing, great characters, great location. The end was always going to be tricky, much like GOT - can’t please everybody

And don’t get me started on Windows wanting you to create a Microsoft account to start up a new laptop. Every step of the working day you are sent prompts to create an account. Default document saving location is Microsoft Onedrive, and it seems impossible to change the setting. I’ve paid for the laptop, and your OS license already, why do I need an account? What happened to free software being a hassle while paid software is awesome? I’ve used Windows laptops since the early 2000’s, and it’s getting worse in leaps and bounds.

I wouldn't say the conclusion is so simple as "don't install Signal" because it remains superior to typical alternatives (i mean if you're gonna use text or Telegram instead, just use Signal), BUT this is a very important security consideration.

From nostr:npub1exwkjulsaqdh5xlplwrnzs3z0p9shf54hw3kxj4pu8eq3wc35y0qu08x90

----------------------------------------------------

"Don't install @SignalApp for macOS, it is not secure.

I carried out this small experiment:

- I wrote a simple Python script that copies the directory of Signal's local storage to another location (to mimic a malicious script or app)

- I ran the script in the Terminal and got a copy of my Signal data on my Mac

- I booted a fresh macOS installation in a virtual machine

- I transferred the copy of Signal's data to the VM and placed it where Signal expects it: ~/Library/Application\ Support/Signal

- I installed Signal and started it

- Signal started and restored my session with all the chat histories 😳

- I exchanged a couple messages with a contact from the VM and it worked 😳

- Then, I started Signal on the Mac

- I got three sessions running in unison: Mac, iPhone, and VM 😳

Messages were either delivered to the Mac or to the VM. The iPhone received all messages. All of the three sessions were live and valid. Signal didn't warn me of the existence of the third session [that I cloned]. Moreover, Signal on the iPhone still shows one linked device. This is particularly dangerous because any malicious script can do the same to seize a session.

Perhaps this flaw is what makes some users think that Signal has a "backdoor" as it is easy for sophisticated attackers to target a victim who's using the Mac app and see their chats. (The same may be also true for the Windows app)

#privacy #security"

------------------------------------------------

"This video shows that

@signalapp

(7.15.0) on macOS stores photos and docs sent through the app locally without encryption. Worse, the files are stored in a location accessible by any app or script. However, text messages are stored locally in an encrypted DB."

Hi Guy. As a matter of interest , any idea how Blackberry’s BBM would have compared to today’s messaging apps? It used a PIN number instead of a mobile number or email address and was supposed to be end-end encrypted.

nostr:npub1g3aqekerzspf3j288r03ugpyn54yq09h7mld56fdf8rewvdc0upqwh0l3q just finished reading 'The Bitcoin Standard' by nostr:npub1gdu7w6l6w65qhrdeaf6eyywepwe7v7ezqtugsrxy7hl7ypjsvxksd76nak

Bongani is a 15-year-old learner in Gr. 10 at Indwe Secondary School in Mossel Bay.

He's been with The Surfe Kids for several years, but when we opened Ekasi Center in 2022, he gravitated towards learning more about #Bitcoin

Everyday, after school, Monday to Friday, he works as a teacher's assistant with our full-time teacher, nostr:npub1lsguzhxl7vt93e86xusyp78dhc76su4llv2h463zqdgxy25j3tvqaemmvv, at Ekasi Center, helping her run daily Bitcoin Diploma classes, as part of the My First Bitcoin network.

Bongani started working his way through 'The Bitcoin Standard' in Oct 2023 and finished it this week, with the help of a volunteer tutor, nostr:npub1a95w2zch0gqfa0vhlgygz0xklwxccw6st88qkmhsk8d3tke2sqaqamsnzq. In Bongani's own words, "this was the longest book he's ever read", and he had to learn a lot of new vocabulary, which impressed his tutor. The feedback from Jason was very positive.

Jason and Bongani had weekly calls, where they would discuss the book, chapter by chapter, often breaking chapters up into sub sections.

Super appreciative of the effort by nostr:npub1a95w2zch0gqfa0vhlgygz0xklwxccw6st88qkmhsk8d3tke2sqaqamsnzq

This is an incredibly valuable contribution for which we're beyond grateful.

Jason and Bongani will continue their work together and I've been told that the next book in line is 'Why Buy Bitcoin' by Andy Edstrom.

I am optimistic about the future because of kids like Bongani.

Well guys. It’s a big topic and a big read. Very impressive
