Owning Bitcoin implies Bitcoin only and storing your own keys. Shitcoins are not Bitcoin and neither are IOU's.
For peoples savings I would definitly advise to go all-in Bitcoin. At least under the assumption they are cashflow positive.

LN itself is a bit cluncky for me. It got that bad that I needed to turn my node in to somebody with more tech skills because I have 1M sats stuck in the ether.
I'm not sure if I'll keep doing the channels...
