Finally got a BitAxe. It’s fun!

If you interrupt loading of the settings screen, you can input your own ASIC frequency and voltage setting.

Instead of the 490 MHz default and 590MHz max menu option, mine can run at 800MHz, albeit a bit hotter than I’m comfortable with and probably not stable as the power brick struggles to beep up.

But 700MHz only moderately stresses the brick and temps are between 60-65C depending on ambient air temperature.

Here’s to the lottery mining hobby! With these settings, it’ll cost $29 a year for a 1 in 10,000 chance at solving a block. Current expected value of this hobby $18.75, so clearly one can’t do this with an expectation of profit…and it’ll take 10,000 years to have a 50/50 chance of breaking even (assuming hash rate, power cost, snd bitcoin price stay fixed).

The ultimate fuck around and find out.

Truth. Even Bitcoin maxis like me typically make an exception for Monero and find it useful. The risk with holding XMR in large quantities is that every time a CEX delists it to satisfy some government thug, the price drops suddenly and violently. The practical use of XMR on DEXs like Bisque though is undeniable.

I was chatting with the fiber internet installer the other day, I mentioned how crazy inflation was, he agreed and started talking about the government printing money and how the fiat dollar was done.

I was like, he gets it!! And then he said, ‘yeah it’s all going to crypto, do you know how fast XRP does transfers’. I said, XRP is not centralized, it is a security. He said, ‘no, it’s decentralized but the government wants it centralized.’ I said, no, it has a group of people, a foundation and pre-minted coins, the code can be changed, etc.. Bitcoin is the only truly decentralized digital asset.

He said, ‘Bitcoin was created by the CIA, so it’s government owned already’…. I said, ‘that is not a fact, that is a conspiracy theory’. He went back to how Ripple had faster transaction times… I said ‘Thank You, bye 👋’…

Being able to type/Swype with one hand. Two hand typing is effing lame.

Auditioning many keyboards on my new phone, absolutely nothing is as good as SwiftKey. None of the FOSS keyboards have a one handed mode and swipe-typing. WTF.

Gboard is decent, but will not let me set another voice to text service, plus... Google sucks.

This is a huge issue to me.

I am still thinking about the best way to address this topic. I don't want people to get hung up on the licensing requirement and deprive themselves of the benefits & enjoyment of radio because they don't like the current state of the relationship between the individual and the government.

Without being a jerk, I think it might be worth asking if you also deprive yourself of the benefits of driving cars because the government makes you get a permission slip in the form of a drivers license and enforces the display of license plates (analogous to having to use call sign on air) and regulates their conduct in automobiles.

I think except for rare occasions, this example would provide enough cognitive dissonance for folks to get past the hang up on getting a license for radio.
