I am amazed at how far Nostr has come

Ethereum “maxis” own Bitcoin.

Bitcoin maxi’s do not own ethereum.

This was the health insurance renewal rates we received from our PEO for our practice in 2023. We would have paid almost $5k a month for our family to get the same level of mediocre coverage we had in 2022. Almost $60k in premiums and we still would have had copays, prescriptions and a $12k family deductible.

Instead we chose to self pay doctors’ visits, use online physicians when possible and have a catastrophic health sharing plan. Our medical costs for 2023? $7816

yeah — i just downloaded the Primal iOS app as well so that i could set up the wallet. it took all of 60 seconds to get that going as well #nostr #primal 🙌

The app is slick but linking personal info to wallet feels wrong. KYC to send sats.

How is this any different to twitter?

Here’s the series of events that led me to Nostr, in chronological order:

- tried to pay for X's blue checkmark but was unable to do so without linking my bank account, instead of paying with a card.

- read the terms of connecting my bank account and realized I would have to agree to share my account number, routing number, interest rate, recent transaction history, etc. No way I was agreeing to that, so I closed the tab.

- opened a YT tab to watch some random videos, and a conversation between nostr:npub1qny3tkh0acurzla8x3zy4nhrjz5zd8l9sy9jys09umwng00manysew95gx and nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m at Nostriga popped up on my feed.

i had never heard of Nostr before clicking on that video. It took me all of two minutes to go from typing the name 'Nostr' into my browser to opening an account.

One of my non-black employees changes her entire speaking cadence and vocabulary when speaking to my black employee. Just changed her name in my phone to Georgia Kamala.

If this is successful and with enough users, this may be able cover damus dev and relay costs, supporting infrastructure, as well as prove a lightning+bitcoin-only business model that eschews the fiat system entirely. 5 second delay for zap cancel opportunity -> fetch lightning invoice from users lightning address -> send invoice to NWC relay for payment -> nwc pay confirmation -> n second delay -> zap appears …

I realize none of this really needs to be shown to the user. When you click the zap button, it just becomes a placeholder that tracks all this progress and state internally, but otherwise shows immediate zap success. Most of the time it will succeed, in the instances it doesn’t the zap just goes away and you can retry if you want, but its not the end of the world. The biggest thing is the instant haptic feedback on zap that will tend to work 99% of the time anyways. I’m not even going to show a different color I don’t think, you can inspect the zaps in the zap list to see if its still pending, but its a detail users rarely need to care about
