I don’t have high hopes that Apple will approve this. It could even be grounds to ban your Apple dev account completely and have Damus removed from the App Store. I would advise against adding this until the day Apple is forced to allow app side-loading.

I think you’re ok on this. 
This is for sending money to a user of the app and not the app’s developer. Apple will not let a dev accept payments to themselves via lightning. In app purchases only.

I don’t know the specific rule and I don’t have time to go find it. But I’ve been an iOS dev for 10 years and I’ve tried doing shady stuff and they always reject it. Apple needs to let us install whatever software we want on these devices that cost $1000+! I think we can agree on that. I hate the App Store policies.

I agree that App Review sucks, but I think Will can go with this and not risk getting thrown out. There’s a good amount of room for making the case, and their policies do evolve — abeit at a glacial pace.
You have a good chance of being right about getting rejected, if not immediately then at some arbitrary future point. As long as it’s reversible, the right thing to do is to try, as that helps effect policy change or at least clarification.

It’s like an ingame currency to them… why would they care? It’s not like I’m selling anything in app. Its all free.
The fact that you didn’t need to explain that to a reviewer is the surprise to me. Like, they’re aware of Bitcoin and the review guidelines are full of ‘supported currency’ language. They know it’s not exactly like VBucks because it’s actually connected relatively well to the banking system. I think that would matter but maybe not 🤷
The other thing that can be tricky is what constitutes unlocking content or features. E.g. if you use Lightning, do you get a badge of some sort, and if so, is that a feature or content unlock?
Anyway, good that you have had a smooth journey and it hopefully bodes well 🤞
