This was the health insurance renewal rates we received from our PEO for our practice in 2023. We would have paid almost $5k a month for our family to get the same level of mediocre coverage we had in 2022. Almost $60k in premiums and we still would have had copays, prescriptions and a $12k family deductible.

Instead we chose to self pay doctors’ visits, use online physicians when possible and have a catastrophic health sharing plan. Our medical costs for 2023? $7816

Wow. Good for you guys! Health insurance is such a fucking scam. It angers me soooo deep

Amazing to hear. So sad how health care is so scammy. We've been members of nostr:npub1q7xqc79rteknhs5s4rsqju2yu8tuguvptu373napkzptsz65yn2qz590jl the last few years and I don't see us going back.

Would you do this with young kids under 5?

I would if your family premium is high and no one in the family has a chronic condition that necessitates visits to their physician numerous times a year. Run the numbers.

Self pay is the way imo as long as you have catastrophic covered. For example my son ended up needing to go to the ER for a wrist xray this year. The $2700 bill we received magically became $300 when we said we didn’t have health insurance coverage.

Appreciate it. I’ll look into it.

Obama did this! Fucker

Yep. It was a catastrophe for our small business.

This works if you stay healthy, which I know you guys do.

Bingo. Did the same 2 years ago and never looked back. Been in healthcare for 20 years and the insurance psyop is ridiculous.

Stacked $7k in sats last year vs buying insurance was a total no-brainer.

I love it! Commit yourself to health and stack sats, not health insurance.

Sats are the best insurance

I see more and more concierge doctors for this reason. Dealing with insurance is a huge pain in the ass for everyone involved. There is one in my area that charges $165/month and you can go im whenever and do anything short of surgery basically.

Crowdhealth is good too have too in case you get hit by a car or something

Yup cash is king . Get discounts too usually

Yeah the savings from not having to deal with the red tape of insurance are passed down to the consumer. Love to see it

I have seen limited use of local co-ops (doctors/dentists and even pharmacies with subscription based services) β€” this is a much more realistic healthcare system than the DMV-style behemoth we have now.

Sounds like Susie+fam need some geo-arbitrage. I hear its nice in many orhrt places

Likely in our future when the kids graduate but for now it’s easiest to commit to healthy living.

You prob live in a good part of the world anyway! Healthy living is a must and easily the best insurance.

Smart

The HIC (Healthcare Industrial Complex) is real. Ridiculous.

Ever look into crowd health?
