I think for us, the most tiring and time consuming part of longer term travelling is:
- Planning the number of days in a city
- Planning which city to visit
- Planning the transport between the cities
Why?
- We are bound to a return time
- We want to be as cheap as possible
- We want to visit everything that is possible
So if you are planning to do what we are doing, expect to spend considerable amount of time on organization during your trip.
We also plan to make an app though, to ease this work, because damn, this is hard.

Consider ATM fees!
In a few countries, you can have free withdrawals. In the others, you shall prefer ATMs that have high or no withdrawal limit. So you can make the withdrawal fee a 1% fee or less.
Also pay attention to put your card in ATMs that support it. Otherwise you may lose it.

This is actually quite weird.
A small spanish goes a long way in many Latin American country. And I mean really not too much.
Even in Brazil, where they speak portugues. Sometimes the middle ground is spanish, as they dont speak english. (But fortunately in many places they do...)
So start that duolingo or babel before you go. The more basic stuff you understand, the better off you will get. Of course going on a spanish tour would still be hard, but it will help a lot.
Actually we learned in Brazil, that we know a lot of spanish compared to nothing in portugues, and this is really, really feelable.

Sleeping bag is useful, but takes a lot of space, and if you bring enough warm clothes, it shall be fine without it.
Probably a sleeping liner is better, so you can select cheaper hostels, and you don't have to sleep in the possibly dirty bed. Also sleeping liners are smaller, take up less space.

You can have your own cloud, to have more privacy.
Using a cloud has the advantage of having your phone or external devices stolen, does not mean your photos are gone. Also easier to share with your friends or family.
