Gn #nostr.
Pretty exhausted, with plenty to catch up on tomorrow.
10 & 10 all around, all in all a succesful neigbourhood party.
Twitch streaming our fireworks shortly - https://www.twitch.tv/esp68esp
Stamp seed phrase to washers. Bolt washers to cement pier block. Bury pier block somewhere identifiable by other landmarks or gps (assume it may end up further undergroud at some point.)
Not likely to shift much, even less likely if you can bury in a root mass of an old tree.
All academia knows is how to beg for money. The entire goal of academia is to secure the next donation, grant, or other source of funding to keep the organization (and orgamism) alive.
So why wouldn't a tenured (recently or otherwise) member of academia believe they are entitled to your money?
Just like the "poor" person who has only known free healthcare, food, shelter, cell phone, etc., never having actually worked for any of it? (This is not the same as someone who did work, but failed to plan for a circumstance that resulted in them no longer working).
When someone is given everything they need to succeed, they never learn how to succeed, how to work toward a goal, how to have pride in themselves and their work.
If someone is taught that begging is the only way to success, they will become adept at begging, rather than working.
What is your favorite timechain?
I prefer one with a difficulty adjustment that self-regulates its integrity when under attack or heavy use. This further incentivises work to be done at an economically sound pace, rather than giving any advantage to over-work or under-work.
In fact, this may be a superior measure of time to something based on our understanding of celestial and planetary motion, or the behaviour of waves and particles.
Different representations of time may be more applicable to some situations than others. Celestial or planetary time may be very well suited to agriculture, which is further influenced by planetary positions and alignments. Atomic time might be useful in very small and precuse measurements. Consider that distance, speed, and acceleration are all non-existent without time.
Perhaps timechains introduce a measure or concept of time that is more applicable to work, or energy converted/expended/transferred.
The mathematics of a timechain are interesting, but the physics of it are just as astounding, if not moreso.
Yes, they are free to believe in whatever fairy tales make them feel at peace. I like unicorns myself.
As long as they don't (and we don't) get beliefs and facts confused, it's all good.
And if they begin to believe that they are inferior, I am free to tell them they are wrong.
I believe that the concept of original sin is possibly the most harmful concept unleashed upon humanity, and clearly for the benefit of the slavemasters, not those they wished to enslave.
The next most harmful concept is that there us someone (or thing) out there that will "save" you. But that is another topic.
carno breakfast. I think I posted one of these before, but a nice personal pizza (eggs, cheese, pepperoni, pepper, cooked in butter & lard),

And a bowl of cereal (well, pork sausage and shredded cheese)

Gn #noatr. Probably gonna lurk a bit.
Today, played with some long form posting. Got something started on habla.news. might finish it tomorrow if I get some time to write.
Also logged into a nest (tryna help!), and I was reminded how much I generally dislike group voice chats. Tried both Telegram and Clubhouse years ago (not many years), even Discord at times. Nope, just not for me. I dont want to talk, and quickly tire of listening.
I think Im just in a different generational cohort with respect to tech. Many kids these days (and adults) are used to team communication during gaming, collaborating towards certain goals or just shit-talking. This bleeds over into work, where they collaborate in similar ways.
I don't. Didn't play games that way, wasn't into it. I play by myself. Same for work, I work best by myself - and while I don't mind contributing to a team, I don't want them in my headspace while I'm focused on getting work done.
So, nests probably arent for me. That's ok, I'll add it the list that includes phone calls, facetime, and just about everything else I've mentioned.
When it comes down to it, I prefer asynchronous communication. Which is what this evolution of notes has been. Funny, I never got into texting either though, may have been the horrible number keypad multi-tap UX, and by the time Apple and Rim moved us past that, I was already not doing it and had no reason to start when I could just email.
Shit, still in long form mode. Really, good night!
Came for the nudes, stayed for the, um, content?
OK, tried a long-form post on flycat.club - very interesting. Still want to try habla.news as well.
Published it as a long-form thing, which brought up a very different looking event number in nos2x. Also, does not appear on my timeline in Primal or Snort.
So, kinda curious where these go?
If anyone wants to read a few hundred words (like 800) on zpubs, I think it can be found here:

OOH! I THINK TODAY IS A GOOD DAY FOR A DIET RANT!!!
SAD - Standard American Diet (which everyone seems to admit is shit, whether they are plant-based proponents, keto, selling you a supplement, whatever.)
I'm seeing a hole in the logic though. If the SAD is really that bad, then why are these people still alive even? Why aren't they all much more obese? Why aren't they falling over in the street dead of multiple ailments?
Really, this bugs me. I see people, even attractive people, that eat nothing but garbage, don't do much for exercise, and just somehow don't become human potatoes.
Maybe the human body really is that bad-ass, that it can just Chuck Norris its way through a lifetime of garbage consumption, and still maintain much of its good qualities.
It is easy to convince someone who already believes themselves to be overweight and unhealthy that their diet is unhealthy and they should change. I think it is much harder to convince someone who is fairly fit, or at least average (granted, average has done downhill over the last century, but this is average in their head, not mine). And then almost impossible to convince someone that follows their plant-based diet of bugs and chemicals, works out every day, and has low body fat and decent muscle tone.
And that last person is somehow able to exist on the SAD, sometimes with little or no extra effort, due to some genetic honey badger of internal systems. They definitely exist on everything better than the SAD, with varying levels of additional effort.
I'm going to continue optimizing for my own system, and try not to yell too loudly that everything that is not meat is not needed (even dairy, although it is a reasonable way to get some extra needed fat if you aren't getting enough - might I also suggest fish?) - but my mind still wants to fill that logic hole with some kind of explanation better than magic genetics.
Maybe the answer is our tenuous human grasp on reality - maybe we only see these people as moderately healthy or fit because our minds have been trained to see them that way. I don't know.
Munday Funday! #grownostr #carnivore #meat #keto #diet #foodstr
Admittedly a harsh judge, but you can do fine (and possibly better) if you just delete everything in that photo that isn't steak or eggs. So, maybe 8/10 on an honest scale. Given that the standard american eats somewhere between zero and 5/10, you're doing fucking great!!!
OK, wanted to put up a separate note for how this failed to post from nostr.kiwi.
First, went to go find the post I wanted to reply to (first 2 or 3 instances of your note were re-posts, quoted in another note, and I didn't find a way to click through to just this note. Although I did open a tab in a browser a few times trying!). So, eventually went to # area (which I might find myself using more than the actual communities), and searched for #nostr, as that is what you started this note with. Scrolled a bit, found it.
The note didn't show interactions under it though (and I knew it had been commented on and zapped, etc - so maybe those interactions icons aren't working great either - future work, I'm sure). Still, appeared to be the original note, so I clicked on the Reply notifier, and the Reply screen opened, but immediately my system fans started screaming, might have been memory, proc, or GPU - but it locked up the PWA from any further input, and I think locked up Brave until I closed the PWA. So, pretty major resource grab when I tried to reply.
I can re-test a bit if you need more input/testing.
There is a circumstance where it clearly does make sense. You invite someone over to your house. Later, on their way out, they politely thank you for having them over. You respond with "You're welcome." (implied ... in my home) - of course, that would only hold as true if they left on agreeable terms, and you would want them to visit again.

Tried it, looks like a great start. Running in Brave, Win11. Took me a minute to figure out I needed to open it from the desktop shortcut, because although it worked in a Brave tab, it showed the phone frame, and required a lot of extra scrolling.
From the desktop shortcut, would be nice to have a Back button. Pretty easy to click on something you don't want to go to, and I haven't found a way to back out, like clicking on a user to view their profile (which doesn't show much). Also, seems pretty inconsistent at loading user names and profile pics (sometimes they load and disappear, sometimes they just fail to load at all, and sometimes they show up!)
I'm sure desktop isn't the primary use case - but that's my first early impressions as a potential future user...
(tried to post this from nostr.kiwi - fail)
Why not? because it doesn't seem (to me) to make any sense.
You acted. you received some form of acknowledgement or appreciation for that action.
How is telling someone they are "welcome" meaningful? And while "no problem" might unfairly minimize the importance of the action, or serve to deflect praise from yourself, at least it is meaningful - it did not cause me any problems to do this action. The Spanish de nada is similar, and even more dismissive - essentially saying it was nothing.
Yes, languages and specifically idioms tend to defy understanding and logic, I can't see an appeal to understanding over one response choice being met with an appeal to defy understanding for another.
Gn #nostr.
For those in USA, this week's going to have some impact. I know I have many conflicted thoughts and emotions regarding the July 4 holiday.
Combine that with the drama of a mid-week holiday, and I think I'll just be glad when the week is over.
Love you all!
