Yeah I love this idea. The reputation service itself has to maintain their reputation.
Yeah that’s what nostr:npub1jvxvaufrwtwj79s90n79fuxmm9pntk94rd8zwderdvqv4dcclnvs9s7yqz pkarr does as I understand it.
Is it your contention that basically the DHT is incapable of supporting that? So either the public keys will not show up or it’ll clog up and grind the DHT to a halt? That would be funny tbh
Why isn’t mainline an example of it working on a mass global scale? I’m confused why that shows it doesn’t work
Seems like that’s not an issue. Again, look at it in practice
How big of a group chat are you wanting? The biggest discord I’m in has like 200 people I think
This looks rad, and it's done in a way that ensures reputation is available to anyone without a centralized chokepoint. Now I just need to figure out how to run an instance... nostr:nprofile1qyv8wumn8ghj7enfd36x2u3wdehhxarj9emkjmn99uq3samnwvaz7tmrv4kxcctj9ehx7um5wgh8w6twv5hszyrhwden5te0v5hxummn9ekx7mp0qy2hwumn8ghj7erfw36x7tnsw43z7un9d3shjqg4waehxw309ask2emfwvh82arcduhx7mn99uqzqun2rcnpe3j8ge6ws2z789gm8wcnn056wu734n6fmjrgmwrp58q3x5kwlg are self-hosting docs forthcoming?
Is it right that this is basically a 3rd party reputation service? Almost like a security firm that gives background checks and approves people?
Cool I guess that multiple of these could compete with each other.
I’m in a 3000 person group chat in Keet. Works shockingly well.
Mainline DHT also works insanely well and is perhaps the most distributed technology on the planet.
No idea why IPFS blows, but it does. We should be able to simply see if the tech sucks or not for ourselves.
Isn’t there ample evidence that DHTs do in fact work? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mainline_DHT
You can use it today and it works quite well actually.
There’s no point in arguing theory when we can see it in practice.
Pubky (more like twitter whereas Keet is just a messenger) also uses a DHT
Hyperswarm DHT. https://github.com/holepunchto
SimpleX = phones + servers
Keet = phones
No matter how super advanced your server cryptography is, if someone gets your phone, they have your data.
So skip the servers and just use P2P. Smaller attack surface, easier to harden.

Is there a plan for how to implement search to find past conversations? Is that possible?
Do a magic link style email login. Generate the key for them and hold it on your server. Then if nostr had key rotation, the user could leave and change the keys whenever they wanted?
Does Bluesky have a better solution to the key issue?

Just need a UX that treats it like a private account rather than a “group” I guess
Running your own servers requires more than ideology and will power. It requires hours of education and training.
Maybe Monero people are right that this stuff needs to be in the base layer
I would still like to see a concept of private accounts in Nostr.
In fact I think the majority of people would prefer such things to feel safer. Make posts encrypted and let them share the decrypt key with their “friends”.
I know it would require some finagling to not have a bunch of junk data on the timeline, but I think the final word on the concept has not been spoken yet
