Maybe. I have hope that people are waking up to the value of freedom. But I understand your concern. Time will tell I guess.

I want a censor resistant citadel for freedom loving people. Censor resistance is a trade off with convenience. Only when people touch the stove and get burned by censorship will they see the value of something like Nostr. People happy with their gilded cage will never get it. All we can do is build the tools out for people for when they are ready to choose the red pill/freedom

So did Clubhouse but after the buzz died down nobody uses it. I think Nostr needs to be a slow burn. And similar to Bitcoin most people will come as refugees shut out of the legacy centralized permissioned censorious system

Promoting the circular economy. Giving a platform for builders. Giving options for plebs to use their sats. Educating people on the dangers of KYC and custodial solutions.

I think he's onto something. Once you the power projection he talks about you can't unsee it. I agree with him that a fence is a projection of power, and found it frustrating you couldn't see it. I also agree with him defence and offence is a matter of perspective. I think the encryption vs proof of work muddied the conversation a bitnwhen in fact they are kind of the same thing. Only POW is brute-forcable hashing that only proves someone expended energy vs encryption which is not brute forcable and so can't be used to tell us wheter or not someone comitted energy to an act. So the two together are essential. Once you conbine proof of real worth energy expenditure with software you bring the real world into the virtual world in a really profound way, and I think we're going to see the application of that becoming more important as AI blurs the lines between human and computer generated content. At least pow will impose a real word physical cost which might well keep us all sane.

As the organiser of Citadel Tokyo Meetup I can confirm that the meetup is bitcoin-only

-The meetup is bitcoin focused.

-'Altcoins' are scams and are not promoted in talks/presentations at our meetups.

Japan lagging behind South Korea yet again 🙄

The vampire squid parasite that is government has grown fat off the simple trick of stealing the deflationary dividends of globalization and technological process. It's the only thing the unproductive class know how to do. They will never give that up. We are still going to be told CPI increase year on year is a "good thing" well into this decade, even as unemployment rises and real incomes fall.

Obsession with scale is a fiat disease.

Seeking to get big when you're profitable makes a lot of sense. You can make even more money by scaling up. But what's really odd these days is that a lot of people want to scale even when they're not profitable.

Anyone with a modicum of common sense can figure out that this is not a good idea. If you multiply a negative number by a large number, you get an even bigger negative number. You're only going to lose more money. And that's true. You will lose more money, in a sound money economy.

In a fiat economy, things are a little different. If you're growing, that can be leveraged for additional loans on the potential to make a profit eventually. There's a lot of newly printed money floating around and it debases constantly, so more people are willing to take risks with their money. So malinvestment is common and unprofitable companies can suck in a lot of it.

Not all of these companies are bad, of course. Amazon famously made no profits for years to scale up. But for every Amazon, there's buy.com, boo.com, pets.com and so on. It's a gamble like with any unprofitable business. Sometimes you hit, sometimes you don't. The point is that the new money entering the economy often goes to stupid things and big things are what get attention. Thus everyone tries to scale massively.

Under sound money, profitability is first. You don't want to be losing something that's scarce. Thus, delaying scaling to maintain profitability is the logical choice. Businesses grow more slowly and cash infusions are much less common. That means they are generally much more hardened to market disruptions, because they last.

Family businesses used to last many generations. Heck, many last names today reflect the occupation of the ancestors that had a long-lasting business. A profitable venture that lasts is something you hold onto. It's also what we should be focused on instead of the fly-by-night, scale fast, rent-seeking culture we live in.

Sound money businesses will be very different than what we're used to.

It's because no small business can outrun inflation. You need to get to "to big to fail" with lobbying power, an army of attorneys, and fat government contracts in order to even survive now.

The AI race is on.

Everything chatGTP can do now + much more in the near future is coming to your phone.

Some things I expect we’ll see within 2 years:

- Real time audio translation. Speak through your phone to speak a different language in real time. Calls will be instantly translated and you’ll be able to speak with a person in another language without even knowing they don’t speak yours.

- Advanced medical diagnosis: ability to monitor your vitals and make recommendations to improve your health. Everything from the standard wearable tech to analyzing your body with a camera.

- Augmented Reality - ability to use your phone camera to point at anything and get a wikipedia-style summary of that thing, and any iterating facts. You can then ask follow-up questions and get additional information much like you can in ChatGPT now. Education will be transformed completely for those who can afford it. I imagine some classroom compatible tech will also be developed.

- Recreating anything you see in the real world as a virtual object and space, and even yourself. This already exists but it’s still slow and clunky. The new versions of iPhones will allow you to just use your camera’s native UI / UX to scan your environment almost instantly to get a full interactive virtual version. As for yourself, you’ll be able to generate a digital version of you that looks exactly like you based on all of your photos and videos. The digital version will use your own voice to communicate. Even when you make an audio call, your digital self might be speaking visually to the person on the other end.

- Personal tutors / assistants / therapists. They’ll look human and speak like a human, like a human in a pocket. They may get so good that you won’t even know they’re not human. Your tutor / assistant will have the knowledge of most of the internet and you can ask it anything to get mostly accurate information. You may even talk to it like you would on a video call (again, without knowing they are not human). This assistant may also act as your friend, confidant and therapist. You’ll be able to confine anything in them if you choose to (but remember who will have access to that…)

- The ultimate productivity assistant. You’ll be able to tell it what to do and it’ll just do it for you short of driving. Need to write an email? Make an appointment via a call? Order groceries online? Order a meal for Sunday lunch? Just let it know and it’ll happen, on time, exactly as specified. The person on the other end may never know they didn’t speak to you personally, unless Apple bakes in some sort of an identifier (probably a good idea).

- Ability to call your deceased relatives if there are audio recordings of them in the past. Combined with their voice and ways of thinking, you can make a call to have a conversation with them like they were there. Hello black mirror.

- App recommendations: Your phone will see what kinds of apps you install and may recommend other apps you may enjoy. (Opt in feature).

- Advanced spam filtering. Email may be transformed significantly where spam is reduced to near zero. A LLM can analyze billions of emails in an anonymized fashion and be able to filter out most spam. What google did back in the day will be cranked up even further.

- Recommendations for your kids. You may be able to ask your personal ai assistant to analyze your child’s behavior, inclinations, preferences and more.. to get a tailored set of recommendations that maximize their future based on your or their priorities. This can be a double edge sword but I suspect many parents will use it.

What other fun or dystopian ideas can you imagine coming to the iPhone?

People have been making exactly these predictions for years. We'll be lucky to be able to heat out houses next winter never mind all that.
