Good news is we’re reaching the peak of Moore's Law (pre-quantum era), so now ASICs may become one of the only ways for companies to reduce the cost of specialized computations.
This might incentivize the manufacturing of ASICs beyond mining, fueling the decentralization of ASIC manufacturing.

Unless increased demand for other ASICs lead to chip shortages for SHA256 ASICs, then that would be bad news!

No one likes the cautious turtle until it’s too late. 🐢 A goofy but good movie to watch as a reminder, especially the scene after this one. https://youtu.be/DXt6M1d6BSY
If you couldn’t tell, this thread was explaining why we don’t need tons of #Nostr clients. The point is universal.
Currently, the last gatekeeper of the #Bitcoin Core code is GitHub and the centralized internet infrastructure.
For Nostr clients, the App Stores are the biggest risk — but it is a blind assumption to claim that more clients will stop App Store bans. If Apple wants to ban Nostr, they will ban every Nostr client on their store.
Removing features that are proven to be successful is not going to get us any closer to migrating the masses off of Twitter. That’s my goal, not a #bitcoin echo chamber.
Listen to what works in human nature, not your own opinion.
Likes and followers are a vital…
• Wanting to see a list of who follows you is not egomaniacal.
• Likes are not an evil tool of the algorithm on a decentralized social media like #nostr.
Over the years, some of my best relationships started out with a mere like. Zaps feel clunky, requiring users to open another app to approve payment — hindering quick human interaction.
Micropayments are hard enough without seamlessness… adding an OnlyZaps mode this early is premature, especially with the miscommunication between clients on the rules of OnlyZaps. People liking posts that OnlyZappers cannot see is beyond foolish.
There needs to be more universal consensus between Nostr clients. 🌐
Furthermore, almost all Zaps are custodial — making us all look like fools to everyone else watching this OnlyZaps parade from afar.
There needs to be lightning wallet integration built into Nostr clients.⚡️
“Luke Dashjr sees about 43,000 nodes, 98% of which are running Bitcoin Core and something called Coin Dance sees close to 15,000 nodes, 96% of which are running Bitcoin Core.”
#Bitcoin has 1 client: Bitcoin Core … and it is extremely decentralized. Differing clients with changing rules create confusion. An ultimate client is only a central point of failure if its development is centrally controlled (closed-source, unforkable) and access to it is gatekept (Apple AppStore, etc.).
More clients doesn’t mean more decentralization… the distribution and Sybil-resistant discovery of the data itself is what defines decentralization.
Respect to that.
Zaps need the buzz. 🐝

Wish I didn’t need to switch apps to zap. I like the instant vibration from button pressing.

How about denote?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Official definition = https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/denote
“to make known : ANNOUNCE”
De is a play on words for de-centralized. The more people denote your note, the more decentralized it becomes.
Meant this as a name for quotes, since quotes have no ‘note’ theme. Clearly naming things is not my speciality. 😆
In a world of uncertainty, the rules of computer science are the one thing we can be certain about. Even though cryptography is based on obfuscation and chaos, it creates a sense of certainty and order.
