But genuinely, who would ever ask that question? Why would anyone be okay with the suppression of half of humanity? And if they are, or are considering thinking it's cool, they certainly aren't my kind of people.

It would be great if sexism were a zero-sum game, then it would be the case that if women are getting shit on then men aren’t, and vice versa. But that isn’t the case. The world can totally shit on men and women at the same time.
Perhaps it’s a function of age; my tolerance for both alcohol and inauthentic relationships just evaporated overnight.

It a mark of a mature person to be able to understand and care about issues that don’t effect you personally at all.

I wonder if the world is better now? I think probably so. I hope so. I have daughters who I don’t want to have to endure these things.
I haven’t experienced that kind of abuse in a good ~17 years. And I ponder why. Now I’m old, I have connections, I have money… now we have revenge porn laws. If someone messed with me like that I’d call them on it instantly, and I can pay some damn good lawyers to back me up.
But predators aren’t stupid. They seek out people in vulnerable positions. ...young women without the skill set to deal with these situations. Me at 19.
Remember, if you aren’t a target, or aren’t in a vulnerable position, you won’t see this. These creeps aren’t stupid, they know when and how to hide.
The stories coming out of the P Diddy debacle are horrific, it’s fucked up, but I hope it reduces some of the naiveté in the world on these issues.
This is a dramatic example, but in the 90’s & 2000’s, this was normal. This was not at all specific to P Diddy, or the music industry. I experienced these types of things while working as a part time sort supervisor at UPS and nearly all of the women I know from that era did as well. This was simply the state of the world. An open secret held in forced silence and shame by the women of that time.
It is what it is. Look reality in the eye.

Did you see the people wearing the ear bandages? Spotted a few of them at the Nashville conference. Cringe.
If you can’t have a difficult conversation with someone, you don’t have a good relationship with them.
What happened to individuality and respect?
This really isn't that hard, just be good to people. Take the time to get to know someone as a unique individual. Hit on everyone, just be respectful about it. Do your thing. Have fun.
Yes I think a lot of this comes from there being a lot of men who were raised for a world that no longer exists and now they are struggling to find a sense of value in today's world.
Genuine psychology question: I’m trying to understand the behavior of some of these people out here who seek a return to the subjugation of women. Often when I discover a new one it is a person who I know IRL. A person who is very respectful to me when they see me out at a conference, etc.
I just don’t understand why someone who has an inherent disrespect for the minds of women would sit down and have an hour long conversation with me. A professional conversation, where they don’t even hit on me. Why do they do that?

It's a very important life skill to know what your "triggers" or "sensitivities" are. There isn't anything wrong with having them, you should have them, they are warning signals to keep you safe. You just need to learn to be aware of them and to manage them.

People like to go backwards and forwards over this one and I have never seen an explanation that I like, so I made my own.
To be a man or a woman is simply to have a different set of logistical challenges in life. To be a good man or a good woman is to do a good job of handling the burdens, and the privileges, of your circumstance.
The difference between men and women is pregnancy, everything else, EVERYTHING else, is downstream of that.
Men have the privilege of walking away from a pregnancy. As such, a good man is a man who chooses to take on responsibility.
Men, in general, have the privilege of being less physically vulnerable than women. As such, a good man is a man who chooses to protect those more physically vulnerable than him.
Women, in general, have the privilege of being able to create life. That’s massive. As such, a good woman is a woman who, if/when she chooses to do so, chooses to create life in a responsible, thoughtful, and loving way.
A good woman is a person who is aware of, and respectful of, the burdens that men face.
A good man is a person who is aware of, and respectful of, the burdens that women face.
And of course, any individual that tries to deride, shame, or control another is a monster.
