Depictions of "dragons" in art from ancient Rome to St George look remarkably like dinosaur species.

My wife is always telling me I mispronounce various words. Like "follow". Or "pronounce". It doesn't help to point out that my version is listed in dictionaries.

Right. You would do occasional transfers to even up excessive risk, but mostly Lightning-like network would do the accounting. Just like in ancient times.

One difference, is that ancient money orders had only direct channels. It was just too cumbersome to navigate multiple hops. But the Lightning network navigates multiple hops with ease, and all the bookkeeping is automated.

The Matrix spec is REST APIs - which do not contain any code themselves. Obviously, some code is needed to implement them, just like Nostr.

A good model to emulate is the Matrix protocol. Not the protocol itself - which does something different from Nostr, but the way it is developed with multiple implementations.

I was thinking of Lightning network to enable small BTC transfers as being like the ancient money order networks to enable small gold transfers (when travel was much slower and riskier).

Then it hit me - Lightning, or something like it could work for gold as well as BitCoin. "Own physical gold" many say. Cool. But how do you spend it when SHTF? So transferring some gold to another Lightning node is harder and more expensive than transferring BTC. But the principle is the same. Sorry about the empty note. Coracle wouldn't let me type the rest of the note after tagging people. So I'll try tagging at the end.

I have 10 relays configured. 6 of them reject my posts. No reason is given. I can speculate that maybe they want a few sats per post - but for that to work, the client needs to see it as a feature, not 6 broken relays.

While we're on the subject of pay per post, what if DM implementations have an optional feature where non whiltelisted npubs have to pay a few sats to send you a DM. This would nip the spam problem email has in the bud. Notice that spam is not (as much of) an issue with paper mail because the sender has to pay a few cents per mailing. There were attempts to add it to email, but the inevitable result was no email except from whitelisted contacts (no special service needed for that). People already take it as a given that sending emails is "free".

They've had those a few years in China. You get in, and they take you whever the govt tells it to go (usually to your work or home). The ultimate in "disappearing" people. Patriot Act (actually NDAA) was renewed here in US. You know that is the real purpose.

Cool (I carry a pee bottle myself), but bad idea. If you don't get up and stretch your legs, better, do an exercise routine, you could get some nasty clots. Happens even to young people.

Ladies can use a pee bottle also. They sell little guides to get it cleanly into a bottle.

As present, the Administrative State depends on the stupidity of people using Big Tech social media. And the answer is the same as the answer to "Doctor, Doctor! It hurts when I do this!" Stop. Doing. It.

But fast forward to when only authorized social media platforms are legally permissible. This has already happened, e.g. with DVD players where unauthorized software is illegal, and authors of unauthorized FOSS players have to flee the country (isolated to libdvdcss for DVDs). (There are authorized players of Asian make that ignore the restrictions. This feature is not advertised, of course, but hang on to it if you have one.)

In this dystopian future, software implementing Nostr protocol may be illegal. Following the lead of libdvdcss, the libnostr type efforts should make sure to host a repo in a country not likely to follow suit. And also on Nostr itself using something inspired by git-ssb.

They are going to try to trace the origin of the offending note by IP and other metadata. You could defend against that by posting through Tor network or similar anonymizing systems. But if that is effective, you might as well keep your nsec secret. You probably want a pseudonym for your anonymous posts. Like Benjamin Franklin wrote as "Poor Richard" for articles that could get him in trouble with the British.

Move to Alaska. Learn to live in and like the cold. "High today of 10 below." Research Russian refugee policy. The ice bridge to Siberia is passable most winters.

Same with Ghaddafi.

Same with Saddam Hussein.
