Mastodon has been trying to do privacy features like this forever. It's the reason they don't have quote posting yet. They want to limit who can reply to a post. Something that goes against the grain of decentralized social networks.

Such random interactions tonight, I can see why most people need/demand censorship.

Perhaps we all need to be less thin skinned but seeing an exploded head gif shared (🤮), racist insults, and a lot of incoherence in just one hour makes the case for at least siloing groups.

We’re not all made to interact together all the time.

Ah gotcha, that’s where I was confused. The report had only been mentioning Soapbox as if it were standalone. Never checked the repo and had it in my head it was a bridge. But I was confusing that with mostr instead.

Wait, I thought Truth Social was Mastodon based?

I can't find it now but I thought I saw a post come into my feed about quote toots and a bunch of other features that had finally been put in the pipeline (I assume after they felt pressure from bsky). Was all of this just a fever dream that I had?

What is the likelihood that all of the changes Mastodon is suddenly putting in the pipeline will result in it becoming the most vulnerable activitypub sw?
