Been a busy couple of days on the farm.

The right kind of busy.

Hey Homesteaders! 🏑 Join us for a jam-packed 20-minute vlog filled with hard work and family fun! We’re tackling a drainage problem in the yard to keep our homestead in top shape, moving logs to create a flat spot for our upcoming hay delivery, and clearing brush for our fencing project. Then, we head to the lake for a heartwarming family adventure, boating and fishing with our toddler and grandparents. 🚀🐟 This is real homesteading lifeβ€”grit, projects, and making memories!

No drizzle, no light rain, no thunder. Just a few, very few, sporadic raindrops.

Raindrops should not leave a puddle the diameter of a baseball.

The weather this year, specifically since May, has been quite unusual.

This week, we’re diving into the realities of small-scale farming with no fancy equipment, showing how we vaccinate and castrate our Dexter cattle the old-fashioned way. We also explore preserving garlic scapes and pork sausage with our Harvest Right Freeze Dryer, including the prep process and troubleshooting a compressor issue that led to a return. Plus, we dig into installing a drainage trench to improve the farm and share a heartwarming update on our bottle calf, Daisy, and her emergency rescue journey.

Yeah I'm pretty sure this happened by the previous owner 🀷

Uhh. Pretty sure that ain't supposed to be like that 😬

It's real brain twister how that even happens. The outside of the other half of the PTO shaft looks fine ??

The 3 most important questions for this weekend:

How many bullets are you shooting?

How much beef you got on the grill?

Did you buy Bitcoin to actually celebrate your freedom?

Happy Fourth y'all. Stay free.

Chicken lay rates are a fraction of what they normally are during winter months. In Austrian economics this is completely normal market behavior honestly. Expensive eggs when chickens don't lay as many eggs and what "should" be less expensive eggs when lay rates kick up in spring.

Steady, consistent egg prices all year long is actually fiat socialist thinking. 🀷

Definitely excited to see plebs.app for video hosting to compete with current centralized options, but the 100mb limit is a non-starter for my long form content.

Grabbed some nice evening drone footage coming to a future video. Makes me wish I could fly to see what the birds see. πŸ§‘πŸ¦…

Get rams or whethers from someone close to your location. Breed isn't terribly important during your learning phase IMO. Raise them to desired weight and harvest them. If you like it, do it again, maybe experimenting with a different breed or a mix of breeds.

Buy from a clean respectful looking flock. Preferably out on grass since that's going to be your approach. If sheep are heavy on grain and you put them on grass they might actually lose weight for a few months while their gut microorganisms adjust--possibly never adjusting well.

Cheap animals are rarely ever worth the price.

Wise Traditions is a great podcast. The Weston A Price Foundation is a good source for anyone still seeking a guiding light to #health and #selfsufficiency.

Can you imagine these #ecological victories merging with #Bitcoin financial domination? The results would be truly #revolutionary.

The future is beautiful for those who #optout.

In this episode, we unveil our new Harvest Right Freeze Dryer and share our early experiences with it. Let us know what freeze-drying content you’d love to see! We also provide updates on our Dexter cattle, including our adorable bottle calf, Daisy. Plus, watch Gray tackle a broken barn gate repair and continue brush cleanup for the fencing project.

Fence pulling question https://www.allforgardening.com/1349147/fence-pulling-question/ #CountryLife #farming #gardening #homesteading #SelfSufficiency

I'm working on a similar situation but across a broader valley. I decided to split the run into two separate pulls completely. Two "corner" posts with a tension wire between them at the bottom of the valley. By doing this there is no tension across the dip.

Farming/homesteading during the weather extremes are my least favorite, but if I had to pick I'd pick cold.

We encountered an unfortunate situation with a rejected calf and spent the weekend fighting to save it's life. It was filled with ups and downs. Check out the latest video to see what happened.

We started raising enhanced Delaware chickens this spring for their dual purpose characteristics. Most are about 4 months old and they have a nice large frame.

Our plan is to incubate and breed our own and move away from typical meat birds and become one degree more self sufficient.

They also have a bookstore. My personal library for Regen ag is all from them. Highly recommend. Favorite is restoration agriculture, Mark Shepard.

Richard Perkins is also good on YouTube. I've read several of his books. They're good but definitely some overlap with his message. Whichever one speaks to you and where you are currently or what you're working towards is probably a good place to start.

The #homestead scale is the heart and soul of peer to peer #Bitcoin local circular economies.

The wait is finally over for our first calf of the spring! #farming #smallfarm #homesteading #farm

It's been a spring to forget making repairs on the pasture irrigation system, but maybe that's finally behind us?

I built a prototype compost bin. If it works well and we like it I'll develop this into a more refined build in the future. I suppose after years of builds this is my new approach. Low effort, most value. It takes until the third design to get it right. 🀷
