Yeah, a team is an attempt to maximize the efficient use of available resources. It's something inherently capitalistic (a group leveraging their joint labor and the means of production, to increase productivity, in the hope of eventually increasing profits).

A movement is just people imitating the behavior of someone prominent and paying them homage, in the hopes that some good things will spring out in return.

I've compared it to a cargo cult. If you write in ALL CAPS or cheer the appropriate OpenSats post, and jump through their hoops, the lightning gods will make Bitcoin rain down on you. And that really does work, so it'll just stay that way, forever. Only a few oddballs, like us, will even try to do their own thing.

Teams, tend to be self-directed and have their own ideas of what they want to do or where they want to take their projects. They will resist submission because they have their own internal leadership.

FOSS generally has an anti-team bias, with financing focused on dev kingmaking. Kings then have to take a pay cut to form a team or hire help, but most just pocket the money.

(Understandable, as they are more employees than companies, so reinvesting income isn't something they usually think about.)

Mostly still an influencer/celebrity thing, that doesn't really work for Nostr development teams, but maybe one day. Who knows?

Even if a team receives a grant, it is not necessarily a larger grant than an individual would receive, so the same pie ends up feeding more people. Any dev within that team, who would have gotten a nice, big grant, on his own, takes a massive financial hit.

Even better than duplicating a curated list would be subscribing to the list (so that you receive changes) or to a relay whose content always matches the list.

Then, instead of having one follow list, you could subscribe to n other lists and see the content overlaid in your feed and switch lists on or off, or search them for topics.

How do reply guys / gals avoid getting in loops? And could we trick them into one?

WoT WoT WoT, but how do you have WoT on a relay? The only way is to seed it with a specific user's profile, so it has to have an "authority" anyway.

The only other way is to implement a Social Credit system for pubkeys, where pubkeys are only allowed to do certain things after they have passed the initial trials, over a period of time. Honestly this seems like a good solution to me, but I think people hate this idea?

The problem is that people on Nostr want to have their cake and eat it too. They want absolute freedom to be totally anonymous, ephemeral identity, to see and be seen by everyone. Yet they simultaneously don't want to be spammed by anonymous random accounts. I believe this is the true internal conflict that ReplyGuy exposes.

I write only to private relays and both npubs were whitelisted on them and had followers.

One of the things that is very different, this time, over the last npub change from nostr:npub1qfkcklnmes45z75y7y8dkud5yll8vp5eq5ysk9rmgqdxeasv8unsrfj6kq is that we have private relays and WoT, so some people just think I changed my profile data because they still see me at the same rate.

Last time, I literally disappeared into the void for months.

micro answer - yes, one of the properties of decentralization is how it reacts to failure.

Nostr is not a transport layer, for example I'm working on using Nostr over Reticulum/ LoRA which is a different transport layer yet using the same Nostr protocol. I believe a good question about Nostr decentralization is not about decentralization of TCP/IP, even though it inherits its properties if you use it through this protocol.

The good question is how resilient the network is against attacks on relays, but you always need to have a dynamic look at things - what will the network do after the attack is as good of a question as what happens immediately after a successful attack.

There actually are pretty good measures of decentralization. You can look at it as graph and see what failure means (is it scale free?), and many others.

Choosing the right metric is difficult though. People usually pick the one that says what they want to say. It's been the case with lightning for example.
