"I am Soohyun Jeong, an emerging photographer based in South Korea. I have worked as a contemporary jewelry designer and recently expanded my creative practice into photography.
The series I submitted consists of Wonder in Wonder: Jeju and Nocturnal Visit: Jeju, capturing the two contrasting faces of Jeju Island, day and night.
Jeju, nestled at the southernmost tip of South Korea, is a land deeply ingrained in the hearts of Koreans, celebrated for its breathtaking nature and unique heritage preserved through generations. As an outsider traveling to and from this island in 2024, I found myself yearning to uncover the hidden secrets of a place so familiar yet so enigmatic.
Wandering through its every corner on foot, I became entranced by the island's whimsical and almost otherworldly charm. By day, Jeju radiates a warm serenity under the embrace of natural light, but when night falls, its allure transforms. Beneath the artificial glow, the island takes on an ethereal and uncanny beauty, bathed in hues that seem to hum with an inexplicable power. There’s a magnetic mystery to Jeju, an irresistible force that keeps calling me back to uncover more of its untold wonders."

"Deterioration and Loss"
I have always been interested in how unwitting visual arrangements create structure (composition) and how they affect me. I am curious about traditional, domestic still lives. I am drawn to capture images of arrangements of abandon and deteriorating equipment and buildings and think of these as exterior still lives that signal my concerns of deterioration and loss.
