Series: Magma
This series was shot in Lanzarote, Spain and traces the passage of a destructive force; the sinister, dangerous and impossibly striking aftermath of an eruption after the dust has settled and fire has turned into stone.
The eruptions started on the island in 1730 and lasted six years. During that time, flaming lava rushed from the depths of the earth, turning villages into ashes and destroying the farmers’ fertile land. The eruptions created over one hundred volcanoes around the island including the area known as Timanfaya National Park, one of the youngest landscapes on earth.
I was intrigued by this natural phenomenon that appears to be frozen in time and yet ever-evolving. With these images, I emphasize both the scale of this catastrophe and the delicate regrowth that ensued. A subtle balance between the landscape’s innate calm and my tumultuous mind.

Huge appreciation Scott, I try 🤘🏼🫂
Absolutely please share it around as others would surly appreciate this 🫂🤘🏼
Light in photography is everything.
If you set aside the subject matter for a moment, it becomes clear that without light, there is nothing.
I highly recommend watching the incredible documentary by John Ott that explores his work with light.
It’s a fascinating insight into the importance of light in our lives. If you have the time, it’s also worth reading about his findings:

Q: What makes a good photograph?
A: If you feel you are in the moment when you look at it, if it makes you feel something (humor, awe, softness, aggression, etc.) if it is a portal to questioning and curiosity

Don’t be sorry, that’s why I wanted to invoke the conversation! All is welcome here and nostr is the place to do it. Appreciate you’re feedback, others will surly appreciate it 🤘🏼🫂
I suppose a better question is what makes a a good photograph vs an “illustration” as Gary Winnogrand rightfully points out.
As nostr:npub1q8gth72n0mcl6rwls905rsvfvuu0dgaq7cq028rc9d7c3ygnp4xq84awvk mentioned, it’s someone that gets paid for making photographs. In any form, I suppose. So any income level from doing it may make one a “professional” but perception is everything 🫠
What exactly determines a “professional photographer”?
