I find most themes, tropes, and narratives to all kind of be a “different flavor of the same soup base,” and I adore making parallels where there may not be such an obvious connection.
I was fortunate enough to go to an early screening of the new movie “The Monkey,” which is based off of a Stephen King short story and is directed by Oz Perkins, who also directed Longlegs.
While Longlegs was pretty divisive with reviewers, I truly think “The Monkey” will transcend that divisiveness… It is so bonkers, ridiculous, and so far-fetched that there is no need for suspension of disbelief. It’s just a ride to be had…
Funny enough, that’s kind of the takeaway from the movie in general. That much like life, The Monkey kills indiscriminately, and the more an outside participant tries to control the outcome, the more the monkey behaves, like a quantum particle— it subverts every expectation of itself until you are finally willing to meet it where it’s at, and just relinquish all control, because life doesn’t work that way and you never know when your cosmic time card is going to be punched.

This philosophy is referred to #Solipsism which I’m sure you’re aware of, but for any who aren’t, it’s a fascinating concept, but if I may leave a caution: do not mistake your ego for solipsism.
We still have our roles to perform in “shared reality” after all… treat others with kindness, patience and empathy; hopefully it’s the way you would want to be treated, too.
Even if you can’t objectively “prove” anything but your own experience, being less egoistic will make your own experience much better. 💛

Listening to Sturgill Simpson, thinking about Samsara & the human cycle of suffering, and playing “Shut The Box”, which is surprisingly a lot more fun than you’d think for such a simple design.
The goal is to “Shut the Box” by turning down all of the numbers with only two dice— if the number you roll cannot be eliminated, either by itself or by dividing the sum, then you lose.
As you can see here, I rolled three 8’s in a row, but was able to eliminate the sum of “8” three separate ways. I lost when I rolled a number that could not be divided.
The odds of winning this game with a perfect score (thus “shutting the box”) are surprisingly low!!
I consider this my own personal preference over solitaire… you can play alone, or compete (read: gamble) with peers!

The apartment is four men, no idea whose books are whose, but even if I did, owning a book is not inherently concerning. The choices and actions we make matter, and all of these men demonstrate that they are stand up fellas.
Additionally, I know plenty of atheists that read the Bible— it’s not our place to speculate on the belief systems of someone just because a book gathers dust on a lower shelf.
I hope you see what I’m trying to convey, and don’t feel like I am trying to be condescending… just some food for thought 😉
