Handyman engineer. I bounce from project to project. I'm often called in to do the finishing touches, bringing 90% complete projects over the finish line. I'm good at making disparate systems talk to each other. * Zaps powered by nostr:nprofile1qqsf07zg4hxyccnkdp07fppxmetpfzru3fg6mgzx3nk8r7af8qnjjyg76vulm * On-chain powered by nostr:nprofile1qqsvxq03xdev3uxehjqcdkr5lfzl5vawmcf7vm6ps73m6ghwg8y4k2shaefxp *Always Buy the Dip* #privacy #security #linux #Android #networkengineer #infosec #SimpleX #dogs #cats #pets #cooking

Because despite what you believe, this "stupid thing" is not stupid or trivial to the people it matters to. And it has absolutely no impact on you so why are you so ruffled about it? Why is it so important to you to oppose such a non-issue?

I still don't understand why this is even a topic of discussion. The addition of these fields has absolutely no impact on anyone who doesn't want to use them. If you don't fill it in, it's literally as if it doesn't exist. The answer is because some people have very strong ideological beliefs and they believe their way is the standard by which everyone must live, because they're right, and everyone else is wrong. The argument against this is rooted in an insecure, irrational, and controlling ideology that's in direct opposition to the tenets of freedom, and right of all people to live and express themselves in whichever way they want.

When did you become the arbiter of what's necessary? Another Christofascist.

You're the one devaluing other people because you don't agree with their existence and identity, chosen or otherwise. I wouldn't go around talking about being classy if I were you. What happened to the freedom to pursue happiness? Or does that only apply as long as their idea of happiness aligns with your subjective perspective?

So, freedom and accommodation for you, but ridicule and hate for those who are unlike you? How do you square that with the notion of freedom and individuality? And why does such a non-issue that doesn't affect you in the slightest bother you so much?

It's not important for you or I, but it is important for some people so why not provide the option? This is a totally unnecessary hill to even think about dying on. It hurts nobody and it makes a relative few feel more comfortable and accepted. Who cares?

Featured notes are the ones visible on your "homepage". There's a setting that allows you to determine which notes are featured by hashtag. So you could define a hashtag called #featured and only notes with that hashtag would appear on your homepage. And you can define as many different hashtags as you want. There's also a general inclusion setting that defines which hashtags are included at all in your website.

I think this discussion has exceeded its productivity. Let's just agree to disagree.

I was responding to Low Information Voter, not you.

I'm not sure, but you might be able to make your own theme. I haven't looked into that. I found one that I like, and which works well for my purposes so I stuck with that. I suggest previewing every theme they have to see if there's one that meets your needs

You're radically simplifying the requirements and solutions so you can support an idea that's currently unsupportable. And you know it.

Well, then pack your shit and go prove reality wrong. Report back in one year once you've terraformed the planet and are harvesting your first bounty of lush vegetation that will sustain a colony indefinitely.

No. The "atmosphere" on Mars is like 100 times thinner than on earth, and couldn't be harvested from the surface of the planet. So, now you'd some machine that is able to harvest enough co2 from the thin atmosphere to generate enough oxygen for a group of humans to breathe indefinitely. It's not a realistic solution.

Where is this CO² coming from? There's absolutely no atmosphere on Mars. That means no CO².

Can you at least give me one example of technology we have that could overcome the realities of having no breathable air to sustain a group of people indefinitely? I'm not asking for a research paper. Just one technology we currently possess that could cross that requirement off the list of many.

Can you specifically lay out the actual plan for setting up a group of humans to live on Mars permanently, and sustain their lives such that that could thrive on an ongoing basis? And I mean no abstractions or vagueries. What specific technology we do we have that can overcome the challenges of having no magnetosphere, no breathable air, and life-ending temperatures?

Absolutely none of that comes remotely close to the challenges of sustaining even one human life on Mars on a permanent basis.

Specifically, what technology do you believe we've developed in the past 60 years that would negate the reality of the challenges to sustaining human life on Mars on permanent basis? Remember, we're not talking about sending one or two people for an exploratory, 2-day mission. We're talking about a group of humans are expected survive and thrive on Mars permanently.

Vitamin supplements?? WTF! A colony of humans couldn't survive on Mars by taking vitamin supplements. Literally all of their food would have to be shuttled from earth on an ongoing, regular basis; something that would result in the price of a cup of coffee being worth the equivalent of $10,000,000. Now apply that cost to the actual, basic sustenance that these people would have to consume on a daily basis to meet their minimum nutrition and calorie requirements.
