Where did you hear we're trying to get acquired by Google or eHarmony?

We're all Bitcoin maxi here, if OPA is ever acquired it will only be by another Bitcoin-only company.

I joined and found a few people in the larger cities near me. I knew there would be no one using it in my city. Any users of OPA now are in early, in my opinion. If you want to try it out for one month at $3, you’ve “wasted” less than the cost of a cup of large black coffee. Not too bad in my opinion. I’ve spent more on apps that I use once and delete.

I’m still happy with my decision to purchase the lifetime account. I have found many people to chat with including some in nearby states. The density of people using it when going to the various BTC conferences will be huge. My wife says that it is a great outlet because she gets bogged down when I try to talk about bitcoin with her!

I know #bitcoin is a huge community with diverse incentives, but I try to stay closer to the people who are passionate about building the future, and avoid those projects that sound like someone is looking for a quick buck.

But my initial reaction is disappointment, and I'd rather zap a dev $30 than spend $3 on an app that's trying to get bought by Google or eHarmony.

So I decided to try out Orange Pill App, after so much ado about it on the podcast, and despite some nostriches' misgivings about location sharing.

I didn't mind the location sharing (because that's kind of the point). I also didn't mind the pay model, because I get they want to make money and have high signal.

However, I discovered after I opened the app and did email verification that you can't use the app at all until you pay. You can't even see a count of how many other users are in your area, much less a map with approximate locations. Just actually nothing.

So unfortunately I won't be trying the app, and can't recommend it. I think this is a huge oversight and I don't want to give any money to the project (I'll keep sending Sats to the podcast though).

I think it's pretty obvious that a new user should be presented with a map and number of local users (of course without contact info), without paying for anything.

Maybe it's possible and I just missed it. If so, it's not obvious how to do it.

This is also why I deleted it. I can't justify spending a large amount of sats on something like this with zero indication of approximate local value.

It's probably more useful for people that travel a lot more and want to find others in new areas.

But for the price asked, id rather spend that on something with promise.

this is a bad choice, I dont want that, I want to have an apk or github or F-Droid release instead of having to use a google tracking account to use an app that is probbaly highly targeted by bad actors.
