I’m hearing more from my friend about the world of influencers.

13 of the 15 girls on the hen do this weekend were fitness influencers or similar.

Here’s my takeaways.

🎙️ No one cares about deplatforming or censorship. No one spoke of Twitter / Brazil over the weekend.

💀 Gyms in london have influence hours where you can film without bothering other normal gym goers.

🏃‍♂️ running is cool again but you have to have a big bum too. It’s kind of unobtainable. Classic.

💉 everyone has had some “tweakment” done. Baby Botox or botox, lip filler, minor boob job, profilo (smooths your skin), lazer treatments, veneers etc. it’s SO normalised among young women, apparently.

💇‍♀️ hair extensions are less cool. No one has them anymore.

🥘 all but one of them has suffered from an eating disorder.

The anorexia or bulimia or any other number of things I hadn’t heard of before had of course affected their periods.

One of them had been told by a doctor when she was 16 that she wouldn’t be able to conceive. So sad.

So she never used protection with her partner of 7 years and this summer she fell pregnant… awesome right?

Well maybe. don’t forget she and her partner had always prepared for a childless life.

🥾 they went on a hike on Saturday morning. The hike took 2 hours. Taking photos as part of the hike?

ALSO TWO HOURS 💀

💰 it’s not enough to have 200k instagram followers + affiliates and sponsors.

You need to have a business like a “sustainable” swimwear brand or vegan cookbook / online coaching. Basically you have to treat your audience as a customer base.

Funny story. One girl had created a load of Tupperware brand.

But oops. She messed up because people stopped buying from her coz the products actually lasted. So they bought one for life and she couldn’t keep monetising her audience.

Fucking hilarious.

🍷 it was a Hen Do and the usual thing to do as a Brit is to get shitfaced. lol sorry it’s just British things.

The Saturday night they had a few drinks courtesy of the investment banker in the note below, but these girls had smoothies and yoga and breath work and were worried about bad photos or giving off the wrong impression to their followers.

What are they, the QUEEN OF ENGLAND??

🏠 the villa they stayed in had 800 followers on IG at the start of the weekend. Today it has 2,500 because of their tags and content. Wild.

👰‍♂️ the bride spent the Sunday morning alone in her room drafting posts about the hen do weekend because she had a new deal starting on the Monday and she couldn’t overlap the hen do content with the sponsored content.

⛓️‍💥

To sum up. Would’ve been super interesting to be a fly on the wall over this weekend but influencing SUCKS.

The model is retardio and to succeed in the world of influencing, your mental health takes a big hit and you effectively HAVE to become an unbearable diva.

And yes bitcoin fixes a lot of this.

But Nostr fixes A LOT more.

Honestly that's what I expected. In the west we're only concerned about ourselves, truly they wouldn't even care if this happened to their neighbors, in fact I'd say that they would find some way to justify it

Enshittification

Truth!

Counter argument: we should start fetishizing privacy more

Also I'm not one for involving government into people's speech since I think that's a dangerous rethoric (I'm very much a free speech maximalist) but I'm totally for suing all of those completely irresponsible CEOs that don't understand anything about technology and may discourage the next big programmer from getting started on their careers

We've been hearing this for years, I'm sorry but a tool that doesn't know how many Rs there are in strawberry will never replace a programmer. REAL AI might, LLMs will not, EVER

Consider Japan. Taxes are the only thing that will get worse (sigh), but everything else will be exponentially better

The control pentahedron:

Big Tech

The media

Big Pharma

Big Agriculture

Big Government

I know that amethyst on Android does

Example zaps to this note will go 90% to you and 5% to opensats (if zapped via amethyst and any other client that support it)

Appendix G: zap tag on other events

When an event includes one or more zap tags, clients wishing to zap it SHOULD calculate the lnurl pay request based on the tags value instead of the event author's profile field. The tag's second argument is the hex string of the receiver's pub key and the third argument is the relay to download the receiver's metadata (Kind-0). An optional fourth parameter specifies the weight (a generalization of a percentage) assigned to the respective receiver. Clients should parse all weights, calculate a sum, and then a percentage to each receiver. If weights are not present, CLIENTS should equally divide the zap amount to all receivers. If weights are only partially present, receivers without a weight should not be zapped (weight = 0).

Non Privacy Concious; it's the people that care so little about liberty that they'd throw it away for a pizza

Remember Big Tech (FAANG and co) companies are not real companies, they're a disease on our world. Whenever they do things like this it's because they know that their end is near and they're desperately trying to maintain their influence for just a little longer.

It just means that were winning; their methods will get more and more desperate, but in the meantime don't use Google play. Use zap.store and f-droid

Oh yeah, the savagery of Nostr... all those people being nice to each other and working together to build something great, how savage. The sheer brutality of forming supportive communities and fostering collaboration. Absolutely terrifying. I can just imagine the horror of people helping each other succeed and creating an environment where everyone thrives. Such a dystopian nightmare.

smh, in comparison mastodon (and every other activitypub implementation) feels like an even worse version of twitter or reddit
