If a book had a decent number of diagrams and charts, would you want the audio version or would you want the physical/ebook (visual version)?

Secondary question- if those charts and diagrams are described in the audio version by someone who knows what they are talking about, would that affect the answer?

Ben McKenzie has smoothly coincided his book tour with a perfect PR firm launch, with well-timed interviews on all the major media.

I have a bunch of PR firm and major media connections, which I haven't tapped yet, and I'll be on a semi-off-grid working vacation with family in Egypt with bad internet and few/no interviews when my book is launched.

When I'm back in the U.S. afterward I might reach out to some of my media contacts and ask if they're interested in talking or not, once it's already randomly out there.

His was traditionally published. Mine had traditional publishers asking to publish it (with receipts) but I decided to publish it with my own company so that I have full control over the material and every decision, good or bad.

Most books that spread well are concise, if they want to be well-spread. My book is long, because I know bitcoiners have a low time preference, and I kept it as short as I could while still saying what I had to say. There are a lot of great short bitcoiner books lately but mine is not one of them; it's more of a monetary treatise. It focuses on the second-order and third-order content.

It's almost like the chad-vs-virgin meme in action. There's almost no planning on my part; I'm just throwing it out there. I wrote it not because it was a good financial decision (books rarely are), but rather because I felt it was a book that I personally needed to write. Let's see how we do.

Instead of doing it randomly, maybe I should think about doing a handful of heart-to-heart notes on Nostr. Like when I’m annoyed by something, I put it in my Nostr category and write about it here. All my articles, books, interviews, and tweets can talk about my macro stuff, and here I can talk about human stuff. That is so far how I find myself using it.

People need a reason to be on Nostr. For some power users, they have good technical discussions here. For others, the inverse network effect can be hard. Plenty of people join, look around, and leave.

So I wonder, what content can I post only on Nostr that would be useful for helping Nostr adoption? The more I think about it, there are some thoughts I would share to a smaller group on Nostr and not to 600k followers on Twitter.

Even though notes can become kind of immortalized, sharing to a smaller and more selected group feels better. And if it’s a tech protocol I want to succeed, what can I put here to encourage people to come? Should I post my same macro stuff here as an afterthought? Or should I use it to post unique content that somehow feels better expressed here, for now? Seems like that’s a better option.

I rarely lose my temper, but whenever I do a couple times per year, my writing gets 10x as much reach and likes and shares, and gets basically immortalized. But I'm rarely happy about it when it does.

I still think about this a lot in terms of how I choose to use social media- with reach comes responsibility.

It's both a bad thing and a good thing. On one hand, it's not great that posts based on a combination of emotion and reason get *way* better reach than ones based on more pure reason alone. For "clicks" the best thing I could do for a given post is lose my temper and go all-out on something.

On the other hand, the rare cases where I lose my temper are based on serious built-up frustrations over months. I'm frustrated about something, keep holding it back, and then something becomes intolerable. My socially-compliant self-censorship all unravels at once, not perfectly, but with a clear aspect of *deep* honesty. And people see that honesty because it reflects their own. So it spreads.

So, most of the time, I write carefully, and I know my audience comes from multiple different backgrounds, literally from Indonesian farmers to Wall Street institutional billionaires, and I try to politely move the Overton window from within the Overton window. But a couple times per year, I lose my temper and post my emotional thoughts, which in some ways are more honest, but are also not exactly my ideal self-actualized self.

I end up being grateful for both my constant attempt at control and my rare tempers, because somewhere in the middle is my truth. That blend between controlled reason and built-up emotion is really hard to manage in an era of digital media and semi-immortalized content.

Anyway, I'll post this random stuff on Nostr, not Twitter. You guys and girls get the real thoughts because you're here.
