Retired rural grandma, caregiver, and dog mom to a sweet lab named Summer. Love to bake and gift to friends and family. Happy in my garden. Living a quiet life on the north coast of California. Mean comments aren't necessary or welcome. Please be kind.

I took a couple of no Summer scenes on our adventure today. We were driving through cow country coming and going.

The Pacific Coast looking north and south from the start of our walk.

I am fixing a wrong that has persisted for over fifty years.

When I was fourteen years old I was unmarried and pregnant.

In those days I would like to say attitudes were different but in many states we have made no progress.

I was constantly pressured to give my baby up to a good family that could offer her more than I could, ever hope to.

I said no and became an emancipated minor.

I was not treated well in labor and delivery as no doctor would show up. My friend's mother who was an RN delivered her. Just her and I.

The hospital staff refused to give me a room so I was on a gurney in a hall way for a few hours before being sent home.

The hospital disagreed with the full name I chose and changed it before registering her birth. The birth certificate has been wrong all these years even though she has used the name I intended.

Today I hired an attorney to help her to clean this all up.

Now is not a good time to have a name discrepancy.

Finally.

A rose from our garden.

My daughter sent me a virtual visit to her garden. I'm getting lots of attention from family today.

So many flowers and she didn't even get to the dahlias yet.

This morning I appreciate that the oatmeal in my bowl was imported from Canada.

I will do my best to purchase Canadian products, that will cost me more, because of the recently imposed tariffs. None of this is right or fair, and half of the US understands that we are in the wrong.

I don't know what else I can do but I am truly sorry that our last election was such a disaster for the world.

A few more photos from our walk.

The rest of the story.

This afternoon, I was trying to keep an eye on Summer, who was chasing a gopher and be present for my grandson who was fixing my laptop and backing up my phone.

It sorta registered when my husband put on working clothes that something was up.

Our next-door neighbors were working on replacing a fence that doesn't border our property. My husband was watching when the neighbor laid down in the field.

So away he went to help.

He was able to get the fence at least closed up for now. I was concerned, but he said he had to help. It seems the heat got the best of the same neighbor that complained about the garbage bag on our house.

I am happy that we aren't in the emergency room and that my husband is ok.

He is a good neighbor.

Glad this day is done, whew.

Every so often, Matt Beard comes up with a painting that is a total surprise.

Named On Geological Time, this desert scene is gorgeous.

I love it but don't own it.

Sadly.

Waiting for dinner is a little easier with your support bear close by.

Dinner happens to be her favorite tonight.

I found organic chicken livers at the health food store. Maybe the one thing she never turns down.

Patience is her virtue.

Before his heath forced him to retire my husband was an aerial firefighter. He flew an S-2 single pilot tanker for years.

We talk about the current fires, some of which are burning over the same area for the third time that we remember.

Please stay safe and evacuate if you are advised and keep a defenceable space around your house.

This evening's sunset is pretty smoky. The air quality at our house was poor today.

Amateur hour is over for another day. We were able to get wood delivered via an old school friend of my husband's. He made sure the siding was already primed and brought it first thing this morning.

I told the backup crew to stay home because the smoke was so bad.

Still, serious progress was made.

A ways to go, but the garbage bag has been retired.

The three of us are quite the team.

The before, after before, and now photos.

We might need a new Sawzall.

Only a few splinters.

Summer and I are negotiating today's work schedule.

She wants to know how I feel about unions.

I told her that if it wasn't for union retirement, we probably couldn't afford a dog.

I told her if you want to organize go for it.

She is thinking Pets Working For Treats or PWFT.

Banking treat credits for later when she doesn't want to work so hard seems like a good idea.

She is a pretty relaxed negotiator.

Summer's first order of business every morning is entertaining her pal. This positive start to the day benefits all of us. She is happy when he is happy, and that makes me happy.

Good morning, Mastodon.

nostr:npub1eyk5ayndqmzh05hyt55qjdzmjqzm5fveayesknejz6cxrdgtuc8qgjhpk4 It is quite a contrast to the northern coast where you are now. Night and day.

Although I grew up in a NY suburb, I've lived in cities ever since 1975.

I was young, and people in general were more likable than I find them to be now.

I have lived here all of my life but traveled quite a bit for work.

I liked San Francisco, the best of all the cities that had garment markets.

When I was a department store buyer, I worked in SF a few days every month.

I had a terrible sense of direction and was always trying to save money by walking. It was an education for a small town girl. I spent one Halloween wandering around trick or treating with a group of people I had just met who were all in safari gear with t-shirts that said Querassic Park. They gave me a t-shirt to bring home, which one of my kids immediately claimed as theirs.

SF was fun in the 80s.

Somehow, I always made it home in one piece.

I really was on my way to get some yard work done before it's too warm.

Now Summer is resting on my foot, so I guess I'd better stay here and finish my coffee.

Going with the flow just this once.

Clearly, there are more Matt Beard paintings that I want than what I have. I try to avoid being greedy, but some of them bring out my worst greedyness tendencies.

I really, really wanted a cactus piece, but alas, they are usually painted far from Humboldt, and someone else gets to them first.

This one is named Thermal Windows, and it would have fit right into my collection, but it didn't.

Enjoy!
