I will be the leader of a company that ends up being worth billions because I got the answers. I understand culture. I am the nucleus.

Thank you so much! 😊

To date, we’ve issued 70+ grants worth $7M+ to 40 grantees and 10 projects across 20+ countries. A dozen now work full-time bitcoin jobs. Rather than fire off statistics, we gave current and former grantees a chance to talk FOSS bitcoin in their own words: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VFWx9mkm8U&t=3s

In case you don’t have 4 minutes (come on, you’re on Twitter), the takeaway is this: Every org that benefits from the work of FOSS devs and designers should be supporting them. This way, devs, and designers get paid to do what they love, bitcoin gets better, and everyone wins.

OKCoin, HRF, OpenSats, Bitfinex, Strike, Coinbase, Kraken, Chaincode Labs, mitDCI, Brink, the btrustteam, and others are with us. Don’t have the resources to run a grant program? Donate to orgs like Brink or let employees take sabbaticals to work on FOSS.

We are always accepting grant applications. If you have an ambitious idea for how to improve bitcoin, email us at grants@spiral.xyz. It worked for this testimonial video’s stars: thunderbiscuit, Daniela Brozzoni, John Cantrell, Justin Moon, Steve Myers, Stephen DeLorme.

This is incredible news 🥳

P.S. whoever is running this account, you’re doing amazing sweetie!

Bsky gives the impression of being written by social media public relations graduates who are resistant to change from their old ways. Although their attempts at creating viral content are well-written, there is no technical infrastructure of going viral to support their efforts. They literally are following everyone to unfollow them later as a strategy. Unfortunately, I have not gained much knowledge from the platform aside from a few responses to my own posts. No one prepared these people for 600 changes a year to the algorithm rendering their training useless, let alone a future where they were the customer paying for there not to be an algorithm.

Bsky asks questions like “black-bsky when” which we have since learned thanks to the open sourcing of the algorithm, black twitter was much more of a censoring of black voices on twitter, being demoted by the algorithm for non standardized spelling. a manual eco chamber of reposts to deal with living in this algorithmic ghetto, rather than a culturally positive thing that should be celebrated, desired, and replicated.

During a "hell thread" incident, the developers at Bsky Inc. tend to participate in the thread rather than setting an example and creating new threads until is patched (which a week later it’s still not). Those who believe their pr push for moderation is going to be tooled rapidly by these same devs who can’t see building a replying to: module is very shallow waters of the same thing (keep my mentions safe from irrelevant spam has to come before keeping my mentions safe from offensive content) are going to be very furious at these same devs when they won’t be able to keep them safe. Everything is a week away, but now it’s two weeks later.

Nostr is lacking in diverse content. There are memes related to Bitcoin and nostr-promotion, but outside of that it feels much more genuine, strategy-less. I have learned a lot about nostr on nostr but also tech related things. I’ve learned more about at protocol on nostr than on bluesky. It reminds me of the early days of Twitter, before I could convinced my friends to use anything other than Facebook, in that they could wrap their mind around “friends” a two way connection, but followers seemed like something you only need as a business. As a result of there not being massive onboarding of established clicks, people on Nostr are open to making new connections. We’re just starting to see an interest in hashtags, or groups, or channels to allow for a more diverse set of content. I think because of the focus on raw reputation, we want people to use their main account, but this also requires a good amount of tooling on this one account to access all the different note kinds and not spam the kind 1 feed with a contextless response “is this Lana del ray?”.

During a "hell thread" incident, the NOSTR devs create new notes outlining their plans to rapidly develop a solution. They share their stream of consciousness on the issue, workshopping feedback, but also have strong opinions of their own. Unlike spending days fielding suggestions in the hell thread without a solution, they hint and lead by example at how to avoid participating in the meantime.

Nerds will keep nostr alive when the tide goes out, and the tide will come back even stronger. when the tide goes out under the bsky I think a musky zucky cloud comes in and “rescues” the index giant.

This may be a simplistic viewpoint, but as far as I can tell, #Bluesky will thrive because it appeals to the general population that dislike Twitter for cultural reasons and #Nostr will thrive because it appeals to a niche population of folks who dislike Twitter for technical reasons. More or less.

Yesterday a friend said living in New York is like drinking a cup before your cup of coffee and I felt that

#nyc #grownostr #coffeechain

In one of the upcoming issues of my newsletter, I’m going to discuss my #Nostr #LensProtocol and #Bluesky experiences thus far

I launched this newly, so check out the only two editions so far lol. I discuss mostly #music and #tech but also any #trending topics that interest me

#Nostriches do you think I have good, bad, or ugly things to say about this protocol? 👀

I’m not thrilled about the new changes to the bluesky terms of service:

https://twitter.com/ashleygjovik/status/1651686218319425570

This is happening because bluesky is actually still a centralized service with a single set of cryptographic keys for signing of everything, a single server that hosts content, and a single organization creating the technology.

I thought they said federation would be rolling out soon? And isn’t one of the key features that it’s decentralized protocol instead of a centralized platform?

wings 😋 #foodstr they got a wee bit burnt but it’s ok 😂

Omg finally another person who appreciates #hiphop on #Nostr lol. There’s like 20 #music enthusiasts on here 😅
