Absolute nobody; Procurer of obscurities. Homesteader. Professional papa. I like doing cool stuff. “Very useful engine.”

Yeah, I was really disappointed. There’s some things I’ll let slide because the state-of-the-art factor (nostr, abovephone, etc..) but fold was just boo-boo from the get go.

Oh also I ended up buying a whole roll of pex since what I had was only around 40-50’ so I really need to just do an update on the whole thing lol

What’s up, kbonk!?

So I used nearly 100’ of 1/2” pex and my 800gph pump is way overkill. Like pushes too much water through the system before it can heat up.

I still am running it as it gives me about +2-6° F depending on the sun on a given day.

I think the key will be to either get a smaller pump -OR- more likely, make a quick diverter downstream from the pump so as to not tax the pump any hard but be able to control flow rates.

Depending on where you live though, the likelihood of those taking is fairly low.

However, as long as you don’t live in the southwest; king stropharia (sp?) aka wine cap mushrooms are a super easy low cost option that doesn’t require anything special to cultivate.

You can buy sawdust spawn in fairly large quantities and inoculate a mulch bed now and (assuming the right conditions in your area) have a flush of very large edible mushrooms by late spring through fall.

Oyster mushroom from our front yard. I cloned this mushroom a few years back from a monster I found in the wild.

It just flushed for the first time earlier this fall after only 3 years of waiting 😝

Cannabis was my gateway drug into permaculture and freedom. I remember listening to this dude early on in my journey toward this weird design science obsession.

I barely even think about weed anymore but it sure got me starting toward thinking about growing plants in a different way.

What’s in the tank? I see a flow pump so I want to say saltwater.

Finally getting around to making a solar water heater for the aquaponic system.

I’ll hook it up and test it tomorrow at some point.

Really this is a proof of concept (for myself - as obviously others have done this) so when we go to build our house on land this might be one of the hot water systems we end up using.

Water is the new hip eco thing to be an alarmist about.

SimpleX Chat (world's most private?) now connects desktop app with mobile app via quantum resistant protocol

It sounds like a simple thing to do, but SimpleX is not a cloud based hosting, nor does it even have a common profile that anyone can just follow or connect to. Every friend being connected with, receives a unique invite address. There is no e-mail address or phone number used to register, so no-one can find or connect with you unless you send them their own unique invite.

Hence this linking has been keenly awaited for a while now.

How does it work? "The way we designed this solution avoided any security compromises, and the end-to-end encryption remained as secure as it was - it uses double-ratchet algorithm, with perfect forward secrecy, post-compromise security and deniability. This solution is similar to WhatsApp and WeChat. But unlike these apps, no server is involved in the connection between mobile and desktop. The connection itself uses a new SimpleX Remote Control Protocol (XRCP) based on secure TLS 1.3 and additional quantum-resistant encryption inside TLS."

The downside of this approach is that mobile device has to be connected to the same local network as desktop. But the upside is that the connection is secure, and you do not need to have a copy of all your data on desktop, which usually has lower security than mobile.

So according to the last paragraph, it has to be on the same local network… how does that translate to anything other than sending messages/data to someone in the same house?

ELI5 I’m techno-retarded.

Ooooh, well good luck!

Makes me wonder if I could do it with the wild ones around here.

Interested to see how it works out for you
