On August 17, 2012, Pirateat40 abruptly stops the operation and disappears with deposits estimated between 86,202 and 500,000 BTC. On July 23, 2013, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission charges Shavers with defrauding investors through a Ponzi scheme.

🚨 Fake Ledger Live App Discovered Targeting MacOS Users🚨
MacOS users of Ledger hardware wallets are targeted by sophisticated phishing campaigns using fake Ledger Live apps that steal users' 24-word recovery phrases, allowing cybercriminals to drain digital assets like bitcoin. The malware, such as Atomic macOS Stealer and Odyssey, silently replaces the legitimate app with a malicious version that mimics its appearance and prompts users to enter their recovery phrase under false pretenses, like "suspicious activity" or "critical error" alerts. These attacks, active since at least August 2024, originate from over 2,800 hacked websites and have evolved to directly harvest recovery phrases, with additional scams via compromised Discord accounts, Reddit phishing, and fake physical mail. To stay safe, users must never enter their seed phrase on a computer or website, only on the hardware wallet itself, and should purchase wallets from official sources.
