A big GM. One of my surf buddies snapped a few shots of me on my prone paddle board. Beautiful morning.

I found this sitting in my toolbox. I bought it when the #RadioShack in Redondo Beach, CA shut down. I don't think I have even tried it. I don't have high hopes. I am upgrading some of my sensors with new power supplies and other components this weekend. I think I will give it a go 🤣

Here on Hatteras Island, they are many and do very well. We have a mild climate here. We did have our first snow in almost 10 years this winter, and all the fig trees are doing great. Someone down the street has a huge one that takes up a good part of their yard.
yeah, this is the 3rd year of this tree for us. The first year, the deer stripped it down to the sticks. Last year, we got 3 figs, but I didnt pick them soon enough and they just fell off. So, I have high hopes this year 🤣
Our fig tree is greening out of the sticks it was just a month ago. Very green leaves and starting to form actual fruit. I think that if the deer don't eat everything, I will have enough figs to make a single fig newton.

Finished the dog pen on the bottom deck so Kenzie can hang out with us. Cool that she is only a few inches tall. I only needed to build a 2 foot high fence. Saves on materials 🤣

I set it for 75 degrees F and let me run overnight. yesterday was pretty warm, so the sous vide was actually cooling the water instead of heating it. During the winter, our kitchen counters are pretty cold, so using the sous vide and maintaining a 75 degree temp is pretty helpful.
They sit on top of the water. They work great to keep the heat regulated and keeps steam/condensation down.
If you make your own yogurt or kefir, try using a sous vide to regulate temperature while things ferment. Makes for an easy time.

This UV-PRO is now my go to radio. I have many different handhelds. I use this more than my Yaesu FT2D and AnyTone. I generally carry the BTech UV-Pro as my primary and my older Kenwood th-f6 as a backup.
What a great update for the BTech radio. Just the UI changes alone make it so much easier to use and read (especially out in bright sunlight). What a difference a font change makes. Now to figure out all the radio changes and to turn off the Rodger beep so others don't complain 🤣

Celery, piri piri, reaper, cauliflower, carrots, onions, chamomile, kung pow, and a few others are germinating. Many more to come. 2025 looks to be a good year.
Anybody using a phone running #GraphineOS? I am looking to setup sandboxed google play with a "burner" google account, but trying to figure out how to get an SMS without going to my phone number. I have used some free online SMS services, but google seems a bit wise to it or the SMS services dont work.
Neal Stephenson also has a book called "Termination Shock" that focuses on shooting sulfur into the atmosphere to block the sun. The novel is pretty good, and he discusses the consequences of geoengineering. Also, doing something like this might benefit the mid range latitudes (US, Europe, etc. -- i.e. rich countries), but could badly effect other countries who depend on the monsoon season. The name of the novel "Termination Shock" refers to once you get to a point in this geoengineering, it is worse (a shock) "terminating" the geoengineering than to just keep it going. Many on the climate change bandwagon dont consider Termination Shock a book about climate change. i.e. it doesn't focus on switching out combustion engines with electric, etc. So, since it doesnt follow their tactics, it isnt a book about climate change.
I have switched to Linux on my laptop. But, I still am stuck with Windows for the next 6 months on my main workstation. But finally, Microsoft has added sudo to DOS command line. About friggin time!!!

Working on a dog pen for Kenzie for the deck area under our house so she can hang out with us this summer. I love a handheld circular saw but this portable battery powered miter saw I got for Christmas rocks. How did I live without one? This fence is way over engineered and should survive a hurricane. I had to stop because I ran out of deck screws. My wife is going to roll her eyes when I declare out loud in Ace Hardware that I am heading to the screw aisle, while snickering.

you can do it with vinyl fence posts, a router table to cut a slot down the center, and some pond filter cut to fit. I also bought felt from a fabric store, cut as a strip to the length of the towers to "wick" the nutrient water that I am dripping from above.
My hot peppers have a way to go before we are harvesting again, and I hope we harvest soon. The hot sauce we made and canned last year is getting low 🤣. 100% Hatteras made!

Finally got some seedlings into the hydroponic towers. Many more still waiting to get big enough for the transplant.

would like to be able to subscribe to weather and tide data based on defined locations. There isnt really a decent non-nostr app outside of something like surfline or windy. But they give so much info. I just want to know temps and tides for the day when I wake up and grab my phone.
