If you’re new to Nostr (regardless of which client you use — Damus, Snort, Iris, etc.) it’s helpful to follow a few quality/active accounts to get a feel for how it all works and to find conversations you can participate in.

Since a lot of apps don’t have good discovery hubs I thought I would write a note for people who are new here to help you find some quality/active accounts to bootstrap your feed to begin your journey.

A message from the NostReport team:

We love the discussions popping up around notifications, tagging, and post length with NostReport. We are a group of plebs that are enthusiastic about Nostr and its potential for changing social networking, its ability to be a vehicle for the value-4-value model and bitcoin adoption, and ultimately its by-design nature that gives us each ownership over our identity and data.

We started NostReport because we saw a need for some way to keep up with the rapid pace of development here. We are early, all of us. As users, client devs, relay operators, nip-05 providers, content hosting providers, and content creators, etc., we are ALL early. In just the last few weeks there have been so many improvements implemented across these segments that it’s very easy to forget how far Nostr has already come.

Regarding NostReport specifically, we had a lengthy discussion amongst our team and we believe it is important to continue giving proper credit and attribution by tagging relevant accounts where appropriate. We will use our best editorial discretion in doing so, but we don’t have any plans to change that approach. We acknowledge that the “earliness” of all of this means not everything works exactly the same as it may if we were on another platform. But we are not on those platforms for a reason, and so we all deal with the growing pains of not yet having features that we wish existed.

Some features we hope to see implemented include the ability to manage notifications, including muting notifications stemming from a specific post/thread. We would also like to see clients truncate longer posts to a certain character count and then giving users the option to “view more.” We have seen this feature on snort.social and believe it is a good way to handle long form posts. Longer form posts also get harder to read with the way some clients auto-refresh their feeds. Even if you click on a post to open it sometimes the client randomly kicks you out of that view and back to the home feed and you lose your place completely. We suggest an option to turn off auto-refresh and give users a way to manually refresh when desired. We would like to see a better way to preview posts and formatting/tagging before publishing. Currently we must DM them to ourselves, which results in even more unwanted notifications for users we tag. We are happy to give feedback or discuss further with any devs that would like more input.

Lastly, we want to reiterate why we’re here. We love Nostr. We want to see it continue to grow and succeed and give everyone back control of their voice and online identity. We appreciate you following NostReport and hope that you’ll continue to give us feedback on how we can improve. Stay classy Nostr. 🤙

One of the best features of Nostr is the absence of an algorithm. Every time I come back I can see what people I actually follow are saying right now, not irrelevant stuff some “popular” account posted a day and a half ago where I already missed the chance to chime in. This is the pura vida of the internet. 🤙

I'll be honest with you, I don't want to see a whole lot of porn in my feed either, men, women, whatever. I don't know if I'll follow her, it all depends on what she posts and how often. I don't want to be scrolling Nostr out and public and have someone glance over my shoulder and see me accidentally looking at porn 😉 My point about this post is that everyone can use Nostr because everyone deserves to post the content they want without being censored.

Started Nostr just now. I´m thrilled from the very first moment.

If you ever wondered whether or not the Twitter algorithm was actually affecting your mood or influencing your behavior, just look at Nostr.

I see numerous posts daily saying how much more calm it is here or that they chose a peaceful reply to something annoying or not to reply at all.

I also see many posts expressing relief that there are few posts about politics and how nice it is to not see invasive advertisements.

Some time ago I posted on Twitter that once a viable alternative arrived, that I would move. Mastodon never really caught on and it’s structure is actually very centralized with instance operators banning others deemed unacceptable.

Nostr feels like home and it is the only thing since Bitcoin that has gotten me really excited for what is possible and gives me hope that we can build a future together worth living in.

Being able to bookmark or save notes is a feature that I'd love to see too.

The best part is that you can orange pill people without them even knowing what’s under the hood if they use a custodial app wallet.

I hit my limit the first week of January. Moved to unlimited. I've used 28GB this month. I used to never go above 10 unless I traveled.

Building a community is not only a rewarding experience, but also an essential part of being human. We are wired to connect and belong. When we find a group of people with similar values and interests, we feel a sense of purpose and belonging.

There is a substantial amount of **Proof of Work** involved in community building. It won't happen overnight, but we will be successful and we will win. Every time we build a new application, a new client, fix a bug, or create an engaging post, it's a step in the right direction to build a strong community and attract new members.

As we build, we solve problems. Every problem we solve helps to provide a unique experience for users across the protocol. This allows us to create something truly special for everyone.

Every step you take, every member you attract, is a step in the right direction. Every person you help connect, and every problem you help solve, is a step closer to creating something truly special.

So, be patient, be persistent, and most importantly, be passionate. Believe in the *Value for Value and *Proof of Work*, and the community will come. And when it does, it will be worth every sat.
