nostr is still mainly used alongside twitter. in the best rare case, as a replacement. and only because people are running away from something about twitter they don't like.

there is nothing that people want to run to nostr for yet. zaps were promising, but bitcoin is still a hurdle (one that primal is doing the best at overcoming), and it's doubtful lightning could scale to a massive adoption moment.

nostr needs a feature or experience that's unique and sets it apart. i *think* that is the ecosystem of microapps over the long term...but it's definitely not in the short term. and that might be ok.

for twitter the initial draw was the simplicity and weirdness of 140 characters (we started with zero network effect, facebook had it all...that's built over time). later it became the conversation which lead to the "public square" (owned by a private corporation ¯\_(ツ)_/¯). and then as it grew, it had a single point of control/failure people could attack.

nostr doesn't have to worry about that last bit. it's an incredible feature. but not one the average person cares about (no matter how much they yell "FREE SPEECH!"...if people actually cared about free speech, bitcoin and nostr would be all they used...they don't).

all this to say, we're not doomed. but what we think is the killer feature isn't right now. who's going to discover the one that is?

my opinions don’t change if i learn what happened in some random convo. Bitcoin doesn’t care.

we need a healthy open source Bitcoin community. period. no matter what. Bitcoin won’t succeed without one. even if we want to ossify, Bitcoin Core 26.0 won’t last us centuries to come. open source projects need open source devs and an open source community.

we should focus on no strings attached funding for devs. the community has worked tirelessly to set this up with things like OpenSats, Brink, HRF, Chaincode, etc. to enable that effortlessly for us and the devs.

we as Bitcoiners should want devs to build whatever they think is best. engineers are the artists of the digital world. the smartest most forward thinkers in the room. we want to enable them. they aren’t ever a threat, don’t mistaken them for one. why? because the only way Bitcoin can change is if we, the network, run their code. let them create. we the network, the people, decide what gets adopted.

if someone builds something terrible, we won’t run it. that’s happened many times before. see Segwit2x, BitcoinCash, etc.

often times engineers strike moments of brilliance in Bitcoin. a very famous example is Segwit and how we got Lightning. nobody thought Segwit was possible technically. was never clear if or when we’d ever get Lightning. a few open source engineers named Luke and Eric found a brilliant solution. we adopted it. we now have Lightning being enabled by Coinbase. let engineers create art. fund and support them.

wanna ossify Bitcoin? run Core 26 forever and never update. no problem. don’t wanna fund devs? no problem. we don’t need to agree on these things. however, if you want the entire network to agree with you, you need to go out and advocate for consensus around your vision. that’s just how bitcoin works. the network moves as one, not from a meeting or self elected group.

bitcoin is a distributed network. it progresses through distributed consensus. the network will act in its own best interest, not based on anything else. fund the best engineers to protect and advance the one chance we have at reinventing money for humanity. adopt what we want, reject what we don’t. if there’s anything we need to work on every cycle with new entrants is public discourse and how to arrive at consensus as a distributed network.

also, everyone should breathe. it’s all love and gonna be ok. Bitcoin was designed to not care and last through anything 🙂

I wanted to believe that Saylor's comments on Bitcoin not being an MoE was just a matter of fact statement that liquidity in the value of bitcoin going up, establishing it as a store of valhe, would just help adoption as an MoE in the future.

But the value of the peso being less valuable than the dollar doesn't stop Mexico from using it as their currency. Should anyone need to consult a chart on Trading View or ask Saylor or even a government permission to use a permissionless/freedom money?

The "digital gold" narrarive just seems arbitrary. His wanting to apparently corner the market on development, assuming that's true, makes his comments on bitcoin's use as an MoE seem far less "matter of fact" and more matter of motive. Like he wants bitcoin to stop at just being a store of value and not a means of exchange. That possibly makes him as much of an enemy of bitcoin as anyone else. Or if not an enemy of bitcoin then an enemy of anyone not bitcoin-rich enough to transact on the layer 1 in the future.

1.- Algunos creen que en España hay socialdemócratas, conservadores o liberales, se equivocan. El Estado Español es una estructura de saqueo y expolio a las clases medias, con un sistema impositivo cuyo único objetivo es robar todo lo posible a la parte productiva de la sociedad.

2.- El sistema impositivo explota, saquea y roba, con un impresionante despliegue técnico, humano y propagandístico. En Hacienda están los mejores profesionales, tienen los mejores ordenadores, el resto de la administración son servicios auxiliares de Hacienda.

3.- El dinero recaudado va a dos grupos: una clase dirigente y a una red clientelar de electores que le da soporte.

4.- Esas clases privilegiadas: partidos políticos, sindicatos, altos funcionarios y algunas grandes empresas, tienen por objeto maximizar el expolio mientras que se desprecia y se subestima el propio sistema productivo.

5.- Se desprecia al empresario de éxito, se entorpece la innovación y se impone un esquema de valores en el que el enriquecimiento honrado es moralmente criticable.

6.- El desarrollo del régimen actual nace en los 80 con el PSOE. Sus primeras acciones se orientaron a invadir el sistema educativo, inflar la administración, dar a los políticos el control de las cajas de ahorro, mientras desindustrializaba el país.

7.- A la vez se diseña un sistema para que los políticos continúen cobrando de los consejos de administración de las grandes empresas que en muchos casos sirven de enlace con la clase política.

8.- De 800.000 funcionarios se ha pasado a casi tres millones y medio, de los cuales Sanidad y Educación representan un millón doscientos mil, con una clara inflación de centros universitarios, mala calidad educativa y un gasto sanitario por habitante más bien bajo.

9.-El PP cuando toma el poder no desmonta todo el aparato de saqueo que se encuentra sino que se aprovecha de él, simplemente toma el relevo.

10.- A todo esto hay que añadir un cuarto poder: los medios de comunicación, que en la práctica no son más que un formidable aparato propagandístico de una clase en la que el sentido crítico, el análisis imparcial y la objetividad han desaparecido por completo, mientras toma su parte de los presupuestos públicos.

11.- Como el dinero que da la economía del país se viene corto se ha ido generando un enorme endeudamiento público que pone al país a merced de sus acreedores y absorbe el ahorro privado.

12.- El español medio, un auténtico ignorante político, permite que se utilice su dinero en pagar toda una maraña corrupta que en buena medida está orientada a engañarlo.

13.- Nos quieren hacer creer que corrupción es meter la mano en la caja pero no es así: fundaciones, organismos inútiles, cargos absurdos y redes clientelares representan muchísimo más dinero y tienen un objetivo igual de abyecto, o más, que el robo.

14.- El elemento más obsceno de la corrupción del sistema es el manejo de los medios de comunicación públicos y el permanente soborno a los medios privados junto con la galopante degeneración y uso propagandístico del sistema educativo.

15.- Las autonomías no se han orientado a una mejor gestión. Su prioridad es la manipulación de los medios de comunicación y de las mentes vía sistema educativo. En las autonomías más identitarias esto es mucho más evidente: lavado de cerebro a costa de lo que sea.

16.- Los costes de todo esto son enormes: un sistema productivo menguante y una productividad estancada desde hace 15 años.

17.- España va alejándose poco a poco de los niveles de renta de los cinco grandes de la Unión Europea.

18.- La corrupción y la mala gestión se ve a simple vista si sabes mirar. La carestía de la vivienda, la alta factura de la electricidad, la falta de oportunidades, la inflación de leyes, la pesada burocracia, la poca innovación o los salarios bajos son fruto del saqueo.

19.- El deterioro de lo que llaman algunos ‘el contrato social’ es ya clamoroso. No existe ya igualdad frente a la ley, protección de la propiedad privada, ni presunción de inocencia.

20.- Defender la igualdad frente a la ley llega a ser un acto de subversión.

21.- El Estado ya se inhibe de los elementos más elementales de los principios hobbesianos y se preocupa solamente de sí mismo y de como distraer a los aún crédulos del inmenso saqueo bajo el que están sometidos.

22.- La ecología, la desigualdad, el feminismo, las acusaciones de fascismo,… no son más que cortinas de humo que intentan generar una respuesta emocional y, por tanto, irracional.

23.- Se evita un análisis racional y por eso llenan las televisiones de tarascas, verduleras y gañanes que se desvían poco del insulto y el juicio de valor. El análisis racional ha sido totalmente desterrado, ni un solo intelectual tiene hueco ya en los medios.

24.- Si queremos encontrar un modelo o algo similar a la España actual solamente hay que mirar a Argentina. Si no estuviéramos en el euro los niveles de inflación serían galopantes.

25.- Así que aquí estamos. Hasta que no nos sacudamos a esos parásitos de encima seguiremos en una sociedad mediocre, irrelevante y continuará el deterioro económico y moral.
