Hey welcome! We are definitely out here

My feed on Amethyst is quite reasonable. I can log on after a few hours, start from the top, and eventually catch up to where I left off. Probably helps that I don't follow tons of people yet, but also there's no infinite algorithm feeding me content, and I am grateful for that.
We should bring back sitting rooms and dedicated spaces for entertaining unexpected guests
It seems one of the things that has happened is people move more often for college, jobs, etc., and so everyone ends up living around strangers rather than old family friends and familiar faces.
Community starts in the home. The best everyday thing we can do for the good of our society is to make our homes centers of community.
My dream is for my home to be the place friends and family can always drop by unannounced for coffee or tea or just to say hello.

Something along those lines, for sure.
I think every worldview has its own imaginative lens. I've been thinking w lot lately about the #catholic worldview the the kind of imagination that makes it possible.
Most of us, at least in the West, inherit a secular imagination by default just because of the culture and time into which we're born.
You could geofence a server/relay, or do some sort of verification like Nextdoor does to confirm you live in the area.
There are global concerns that affect everybody, so there's a place for global social media. However, when all the platforms are global, important local concerns can get lost in the noise.
What do people think about the idea of the internet/social media as a "public square?"
Is having a global public square really valuable? Maybe we should focus on subsidiarity and having online platforms local to individual towns or cities to serve as public forums there. That seems to be a perfect use case for Nostr.
I use Alby and like it, but I haven't tried out any others yet. Some people recommend having more than one. You could have one on your desktop and one on your phone (Alby doesn't have a mobile app)
Do you have a Lightning wallet set up?
I don't think anyone is persuaded of a new viewpoint by reason alone. The imaginative lens must first be reshaped to expand the horizons of possibility.

Oh yeah I know what you're talking about now. It's the ice age civilization stuff that Joe Rogan likes to talk about. I haven't heard it called Hyper-History before. I find the ideas fascinating, though I wouldn't put my reputation on whether they're true. Definitely fun, like you said.
Here in the US I've been dissatisfied with political conservatism, despite growing up in a conservative household, because they seem to me to struggle to paint a positive vision of the way forward.
Progressives and conservatives are two sides of the same script, and I think we have to go outside that a script.
I keep having dreams about nuclear war...
