Insect murmuration.
Am I the only person who thinks this is cool? I sent it to friends and they said it was gross…
Cerastipsocus venosus, tree cattle
They eat lichen so they’re ok.

FREE SEEDS for native edible plants; eastern North America, zones 9-6
I’m near my goal of sending tree seeds to at least 20 people this fall and I still have many seeds left.
Besides the ones stated below, also added
Celtis occidentalis
Passiflora lutea
Passiflora incarnata (limited and only to zone 7)

Bombus impatiens on Impatiens capensis
For reals. This was not staged. The bee landed on this flower of its own accord.
Common eastern bumblebee on jewelweed

nostr:npub1m96dsmaw7nhqadefxrh6qyudzhf3zfvl0hszc59efv9uhwg7rxcsxp9cd3 yes, they look ok. Mine don’t turn yellow either and will ferment after several days. Maybe they’re talking about another species of passiflora? I’ve never known a maypop that is yellow but there are lots of central and South American species that turn yellow.
nostr:npub1l3dx6x0q9ydnycm4k3hnv8dq5tjz8czjmvdyzryax8487759z0wq6882al I’m really interested in seeing how other people are coping and strategizing with growing plants in a changing climate, is this something your work touches on?
Has anyone ever grown peanuts?
Drawbacks, recommendations?
Thinking about what seeds to look for this fall….
Zone 8–9, long growing season, hot summers, 47inches/120cm rainfall, have rain barrel too.
#gardening
Melothria pendula, creeping cucumber
It’s related to the cucamelon (M scabra) and is also a perennial. Pictured fruits are ripe. When they turn darker green they are no longer edible and when they are black, are stinky and work like ipecac.
Please let me know if you want seeds to this when I pass out native edible seeds this fall. More in AltText.

nostr:npub1u3hqxl5dx6wvte285ymkz9cesuz4hknu058myv5dp6v66n4qdpms9gnu4y I actually live in zone 8/9 and don’t really have proper winters except rando cold snaps so many of my perennial plants are subtropical that I move into the garage if the temps get low. I use katuk and sissoo spinach the most. For consistent berries, I have Jamaican cherries, and genus Eugenia, Pouteria, Bunchosia, Plinia. Others I use a lot are longevity and Okinawa spinach, tamarind. I also have guava and citrus trees.
nostr:npub147cs3tl7d2e9uhzns8wyreacdh8sw25092jjf5ka4uycvr2rqhnsu527uk so sorry to hear this. Let me know if you need anything, help or advice especially with pain or chemo symptoms. There is a lot that people don’t talk about that is really miserable especially if you don’t know what’s coming.
nostr:npub14hals7mg55wgdj0lwv3p2th0lk5jz9whseagcqkcjamvqqmlf4fsckpqf0 I'm in Canadian hardiness zone 3b - from my very quick research, might be a stretch to grow any Physalis here.
I've eaten some before though (a friend grew some successfully in Europe), and did quite enjoy them.
nostr:npub17az3s5w227nh4hlwh4xjgf4f6xtel2mlm4xwjnch2rtq4fhsp25s295jcv Physalis grisea as a species reaches into Canada (Quebec ground cherry) but I don’t know how far north exactly. My seeds were sourced from the wild in zone 8 but if you would like to try it out, you should find a Canadian source in case there are zone variants in the species. Tradewinds sources their P grisea from Canada. https://www.tradewindsfruit.com/physalis-grisea-quebec-ground-cherry-seeds but you might be able to find other 🇨🇦 sources locally.
do you get cloud berries where you are?

nostr:npub1ads0tlqpzhtfh3ug85738vx2q5fgsla83jcypkygf4zlcpm882qqf7sg7a iNaturalist says it’s in the tribe Hemileucini but didn’t narrow down a species. Hope your partner feels better soon ❤️
nostr:npub1cwxmdug3qe0qfh0crcxatwj0ndezu35gag72xknnhg4addev4w9sk53cmd diospyros texana, dense foliage and tasty fruit
nostr:npub1m96dsmaw7nhqadefxrh6qyudzhf3zfvl0hszc59efv9uhwg7rxcsxp9cd3 all the other pepper species are more pest resistant than anuum. Madhatters (Capsicum baccatum) are sweet and live for more than 6 years if you protect them from frost. I drag mine into the garage, cut them far down and don’t have any issues with pests. They are prolific fruiters too.

I do NOT feel safe near these people as they are explosively hotheaded and their hypocrisy and non-stop hatred is mind-blowing. Total crazytown.
nostr:npub1m96dsmaw7nhqadefxrh6qyudzhf3zfvl0hszc59efv9uhwg7rxcsxp9cd3 you can make it really easy on yourself and grow veg that isn’t susceptible to white fly.
Instead of cucumbers grow the native variety or its close relative the Mexican sour gherkin (cucamelon),
Instead of green beans, grow winged bean
Instead of peppers, grow achocha
instead of tomatoes grow physalis grisea (tastes like tomato after heating)
(above are close equivalents in taste)
