Bitcoin is the perfect tool for charging money to people that want the service but don't want to give up any personal information. To my knowledge VPNs are about the only service that's really embraced this.

Looks like I was able to get this working again, sort of. It says I'm connected to 9-11 relays, but only shows that I have 100 followers (and even Jack only about 40, so it has to be a data gap), and very few notes on timelines (with obvious gaps even for hugely active accounts). Relay.damus.io never seems to pass me any data (0kb both up and down) to me, which j assume is due to my connection coming via Tor, but honestly I don't know. I'm connecting using Amethyst, if anybody sees this and has any ideas—what's the best, biggest relay for Tor users right now?

Secondly, and most importantly for anyone who sees this note, please make some noise to try and stop the passage of RISAA (the FISA 702 reauthorization) that's about to hit law as soon as this Friday. Please read about it and push it out on all of your socials, if you agree it's a problem. It's going to be hard to stop this thing, even with all hands.

I'll offer an optimistic take on both of your concerns:

1. I believe that most nostr clients will implement some form of outbox support. All Primal clients certainly will. We are literally a few days from releasing a major update. Once users’ notes are spread out over hundreds (eventually thousands) of relays, client devs will be incentivized to upgrade their clients accordingly. It will take a bit of time, but that’s okay.

2. Nostr being seeded with bitcoiners is a feature, not a bug. To bootstrap a truly decentralized network, we need the initial group of users who understand decentralization and are willing to fight for it. There is no other way imho. The short term price we are paying is that the content is bitcoin-centric, but that’s fine. That will get sorted out over time as the network grows.

IMO, we need to lower our time preference and be more patient. Everything is moving in the right direction.

We don’t need a successor protocol. Nostr is the one we’ve been looking for.

There is an interest in having the community non ruggable.. but they don’t really worry about decentralization or being censored. Also they don’t care about zapping…

USABILITY and UX is THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR FOR THEM!

I got some interest from the interoperability of different apps on the protocol - but it’s still hard to understand for them.
