Ecash is better than a regular custodian in that it's an open protocol we can build some assurances around.

Mints can do epochs at regular intervals for proof of reserves, use multisig (fedimints for sure) and leverage the web of trust, though this one could also apply to a regular custodian

As much as I like ecash it's not tied to bitcoin at all.

I've seen argentinian peso denominated mints, as well as USD. We will see all kinds of shitcoinery on them.

The most basic web-of-trust feature we should see everywhere is what legacy social media already does: When you visit a new profile, it tells you who of your contacts follow that profile

That's my first goal with my wot service, which also retrieves results based on trust rank such that the UI can pick the 5-10 profiles with strongest signal

They swear they won't, but technically have the ability to associate web searches with names and billing addresses. Not good.
