Yep. It’s quite simply paying for the stuff you want. We do it everywhere else.
I think policy discussions should be had around how much we tell children, etc on the LGBTQIA+ issue. I hold hetero issues to the same standard. Frankly, kids need to not be sexualized in any direction.
That being said, I stand in solidarity with every single adult of any alignment being left the fuck alone and allowed to live their life. Either everyone is free or none of us are.
People who pretend to take advantage and commit harm should be prosecuted to the fullest extent. People who are minding their business should be left alone.
That’s where I stand and I hope that’s an adequate place to stay friends. And I do consider you a friend.
I think there’s some fucked up people trying to hijack the cause of gay and trans people to target kids. I also don’t think that’s representative of the community having been friends with plenty of trans individuals. People need to see through the lies and separate support for those who genuinely want equal protection under the law and equal treatment by their neighbors from those who want to take advantage.

Sounds incredibly plausible that this was the NSA at work. I doubt Apple is working actively with the NSA, but who knows what they could have been legally compelled to do.
My bet is China.
Apple doesn't manufacture iPhones in the U.S. They're made in China and Vietnam (a close ally of China). There are some parts made in the U.S., but they're shipped to the manufacturing centers overseas. Access to the devices involved is probably fairly simple. And analysis of the components of those devices is probably equally simple - and probably quite covert.
Russian and China have a much longer history of adversarial exchanges than cooperative ones in the past, with only some of the 20th century showing any signs of thawing. They each think of the other as less than human, but if mutual interests demand cooperaiton, they're often pragmatic enough to do that.
Doing that provides both sides, more with China lately than with Russia, to slip in spies and other means of data gathering.
Without any direct proof, I've felt that Kaspersky has primarily been a convenient way to engender trust with the West by "outing" obsolete spywear/malware/etc. as a "favor" once a better variant has been created and deployed. In short, it's mostly a propaganda arm of the Russian government. But they'd also know what exploits are out there that the Russians have made and deployed that they DON'T tell the world about until the Kremlin gives them the green light to do so, which would make their employees a very tempting target for bugging their phones.
Since the Chinese government doesn't trust Russia any more than Russia trusts the Chinese government, and would want to know what Russia is doing to them before Kaspersky reveals it in some press statement, and having the ready access to the components of iPhones to reverse-engineer to exploit for spying purposes, I'd be far less inclined to say this was the NSA's doing.
It smells a LOT more like what the Chinese have been doing for 40 years.”
What is the performance impact of running everything virtualized? Assuming decent hardware that supports virtualization, what would you estimate the loss at?
Just set up Android TV 13 on my Raspi4B on a lark.
I’ve had Google TV devices from them, I’ve had a few other brands - about the only thing I haven’t had is a Shield.
Google really needs to clean up the UI on these things and deal with the performance issues. This is an area Apple should not be beating them on. There’s no excuse. But there’s also no comparison. AppleTV 4K is a breath of fresh air after using Google TV products.

Same story, hysterical delivery.
On Nostr.wine? broadcast=true blasts your notes to the relays wine downloads from.
&global=all disables the spam filter if I remember correctly.
iMessage because it's on my family's devices. Honestly, it's pretty dang nice on iOS 17, have to admit.
Telegram because the few stragglers were willing to use it (very attractive interface/features, etc.). I have used Apple's Advanced Protection before, but no longer put anything of value or sensitivity on my phone except one bank account that rarely has more than a few bucks in it.
I do use Secure Chat any time I'm having sensitive conversations or transmitting PII over Telegram. Not all the time, because it neuters all the features (I have Telegram Premium, so voice to text, etc is disabled).
I tried SimpleX, lost the family within 48 hours of trying. Kept it for people on here, but then it got bad enough I didn't actually receive about half of what was going on in those chats, so I discontinued it about a month or two ago after an announcement here so people weren't trying to get up that ID anymore.
I also have a few peeps on Threema, which is my preferred privacy messenger. I would be very interested in hearing a professional opinion on Threema if you have one though. 👀
Meritocracy of ideas. I’m there for it.
Good night Tanel. Get some good rest.
I can’t give a woman that much wood. Can’t compete here.
