This provides an interesting example of how Schelling points work. There’s a fear and greed one, and there’s the “nah we’re all to lazy to bank run so why do it?” Yellen is banking on the latter.
I’m not sure if it’s like this in other major cities but in Seattle the ride apps are about 30-50% more expensive than cabs and sometimes even more convenient.

But like what does fully reserved mean if you don’t actually have dollars at the Fed? Do you have a stack of twenty dollar bills? Do you have tethers? Do you have treasurys?
I’m guessing there’s an assumption, here that such an institution would be *more* responsible thenother banks that are connected to the Fed, but from the feds perspective, or my perspective, or anybody else’s perspective, we don’t know this. So while you think obviously they wouldn’t be diluting the shit out of the dollar if they’re allowed to issue their own loans and make their own rules etc. etc. nothing really stops them and us Americans have the dollars brand to uphold.

Like for example I was a bit disappointed when the last president intentionally spread disinformation about election results but I don’t he would have been empowered to do this if Senators like Mitch McConnell wouldn’t have already signaled that he had carte blanche to take swings at the democratic process. So it was really a group effort.

Also, the idea that you can connect to multiple relays, makes it a little bit more free speech friendly. I do find over on mastodon I go out of my way to be nice when people are saying really stupid things because I’m afraid that someone’s going to block me and accuse me of mansplaning and put pressure on my instance to ban me or something. There’s obviously trade-offs with this but I think you have a lot of freedom on the client side to filter your feed, we’re on mastodon it seems like there’s lotta pressure on the instances to keep the trolls off.
