Hi John, So.... one simple idea I had is to allow anyone to create a group and add themselves to perhaps 5-10 groups. This might be a good test to see how the idea resonates with people without it getting too messy. Please let me know your thoughts. #onboarding

I think many people would be ready for NOSTR if they knew about it. In all the press coverage about Threads there were mentions of Mastadon and BlueSky. I did not see any mentions of NOSTR. NOSTR needs a good PR agency who can get NOSTR mentioned every time there is a story about Threads, Twitter, Blue Sky or Mastadon. This was an extremely popular post with 180 replies. Many people make good points about the onboarding being difficult and some inconsistencies in the UI between clients. These are all valid points, but the fact is that NOSTR "works" on some level and what it lacks is more people on the network. More people coming and testing NOSTR created more value faster than anything else. Sure it is early and some people will get turned off but the experience is getting better each day and many will stay. #grownostr

You can find some groups by going to https://graphicsocial.media just click on the things that interest you and then follow any people who post interesting things. There are many many interesting people on NOSTR.

Hi John, We have a dashboard where you can create groups and add people into those groups. For the moment, I have created these groups and added people simply based on their participation on each topic. A bit of thinking needs to go into how to handle .any different people adding groups and people. Initially I just wanted something which gets a new user up and running. I think there are many interesting things which can be done with these groups if it is designed properly. #grownostr #onboarding

Hi John, We've implemented your idea of being able to see who is in the groups. You can click on the group name and see the list of users. It isn't perfect, but it does give a new user a nice "starter feed"! Please let me know if you have any other thoughts

Hi Pablo, this is mindblowing! Thank you for sharing this. I don't even really comprehend the whole concept, particularly what he said about using AI to scan the NOSTR network for other services available, but I do understand that this is truly amazing! Somehow, people with good access to media need to get this type of story out there so people can understand the incredibly unique possibilities which people can build on NOSTR. As far as I know this type of project could not be built on Twitter. Correct me if I am wrong. #grownostr #vendingmachine

Hi Stam,

We implemented an onboarding idea for people to follow groups based on their interests. If you want to login and test it I would appreciate your feedback. It is very basic but it works!

You can sign in using your nsec and follow groups or choose sign up and do it as a new user. https://manyworlds.social . A new user can sign up, and they go straight to Groups to choose their interests and then choose groups and are immediately taken to their feed. This is the groups API implemented on a Coracle install, but it can be easily implemented into the login flow of any client. We bypass choose relays and other steps to get a new user straight to an interesting feed as quickly as possible. had a concept of using a vending machine which would be better than an API, so we will work on that after we work out some kinks to the Groups front end. We should have the front end available in a few hours. People will be able to create groups and add users.

Sorry for the extra post! Also, I will be zapping 1,000 sats to the first 100 people who go through the sign up or sign in process at https://manyworlds.social follow some groups and let me know any feedback from the process. Thank you. #onboarding #introductions #plebchain

Created this little guide as I am fed up with answering the same question on #asknostr:

“#Nostr is the protocol of freedom of speech for the internet. There are now on average over 10,000 active daily users interacting with the Nostr protocol. The majority of users I come across are every grateful for the existence of a protocol like Nostr in this age of permissioned social media platforms censoring peoples right to free speech online.

However, there are some cases of users reporting negative experiences when using Nostr these include: poor user onboarding experience, not being able to find accounts to follow, confusion about which relay servers to connect to, and coming across spam in the global feed of some clients.

Firstly, If you are having a poor experience using Nostr, make sure you using a Nostr client or mobile application that has regular updates such as:

-#Primal.net for web, IOS and Android. https://primal.net/

-#Amethyst for Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vitorpamplona.amethyst&hl=en&gl=US

-#Damus for IOS: https://damus.io

-#Plebstr for both IOS and Android: https://plebstr.com/

-#Snort.social for web: https://snort.social

-#Nostur for IOS: https://nostur.com/

-#Satelite.earth for web: https://satellite.earth/

-#Getcurrent for both IOS and Android: https://getcurrent.io

-#Iris for web/Android/IOS: https://iris.to

-#Habla.news for web: https://habla.news/

-#Coracle.social for web: https://coracle.social/

Secondly, introduce yourself to #plebchain hashtag with a “follow for follow” message at the end of your note. The ladies of Nostr prefer to use #babechain hashtag instead.

Most Nostr clients now support “Follow #Hashtag” feature. Search for hashtags of your interest and find your tribe. For example, I follow #carnivore, #bookstr,#proofodwalk, #biblestr, #proofofwalk, #hikestr, #steakstr, #touchgrass, #health,#tunestr, #devs and #filmstr.

You should also check these Nostr websites out that show what notes and which Nostr users are trending on any given day:

https://nostr.band/

https://primal.net/

You can find a large list of people from your social media accounts using https://nostr.directory website.

Checkout https://bitcoinnostr.com and https://nostrplebs.com/ to find a long list of nostr users as well.

Join #NostrNests (Nostr’s version of Twitter Spaces at https://nostrnests.com) and interact with of Nostr users to find like minded individuals to follow and confide in. Join #zap.Stream (https://zap.stream) to find Nostr creators live streams.

A personal observation is that everyone that follows 1000+ accounts on Nostr seems to be having a very positive experience and usually more engaged:

(1) It helps keep your timeline busy as more accounts means more notes to read through and

(2) It helps bring vareity to your Nostr client feed.

Finally, make sure you are connected to some of the most popular relays. If you are looking to come across more people using the Nostr protocol to checking joining the most popular relays (see the relay adoption data at stats.nostr.band in the bar chart below) to grow your nostr tribe.

Top 10 Most Popular Relays (as of 27/07/2023 according to stats.nostr.band data):

1) wss://relay.damus.io

2) wss://eden.nostr.land

3) wss://nos.lol

4) wss://snort.social

5) wss://relay.current.fyi

7) wss://nostr.orangepill.dev

8) wss://nostr.wine

9) wss://nostr.bitcoiner.social

Great Summary Sovereign Matt! Thank you for putting this together! Very helpful for onboarding new users. #onboarding #asknostr #introductions

Hi fiatjaf, we have implemented a beta version of the onboarding idea for groups at https://manyworlds.social . I will upload the API to Git a bit later. I saw that nostr:npub1l2vyh47mk2p0qlsku7hg0vn29faehy9hy34ygaclpn66ukqp3afqutajft had a concept of using a vending machine which would be better than an API, so we will work on that after we work out some kinks to the Groups front end. We should have the front end available in a few hours. Recently, NOSTR has been slow and glitchy for long stretches. There can be many factors causing this but I think that NOSTR needs more infrastructure specifically more relays which are robust such as NOSTR.band. If anyone wants to participate in building and funding a world class relay please let me know. It seems to me that the entire NOSTR ecosystem would benefit How much would such a relay cost to operate monthly? I have no idea but my guess is that currently a budget of $1,000 per month would go a long way! If anyone has more concrete numbers please let me know. I can fund one month! #relay #bounty #nostrfeatures #grownostr

What is the best place to post a bounty for a feature I would like to have a developer build? Is there a common hashtag being used for bounties? Looking for anyone who has NIP-50 relay experience or who could integrate NIP-50 into a good open source relay. #relay #bounty #grownostr #nostrinfrastructure #developers #hackers #coders

Yes, great idea! Is anyone working on a "botless" feed? Some parts of my NOSTR experience are full of bots and RSS trash. I would really like a feed which is just people. The RSS feeds can be useful but not intermingled with posts from friendly NOSTR people! #grownostr

Yes! Well said! NOSTR is an incredibly welcoming place! Let's keep that vibe going strong! NOSTR is whatever you imagine it to be, so there is no "type" of user. Anyone can find value in NOSTR and if they can't now, someone will build what they need! NOSTR will win because of the friendly community that is so embracing of newcomers! Tell all your friends on all the other networks to come try the fun friendly place! If they can easily find things of interest (which is easier and easier every day) NOSTR will hit that critical mass and flourish! It is early days, but with each release the entire network becomes more interesting,
