On its first birthday ChatGPT celebrated by firing a warning shot to humans, as it shocked markets by firing its own boss.

Not really, he would be guilty as hell.

For context I spent 15 months negotiating with world class corporate lawyers of my $300billion market cap clients for;

1). Permission to hold their sensitive data

2). Permission to train neural nets with their data

3). Permission to own those neural nets

4). Permission to sell services built on those neural nets back to them

In the end they agreed, but I was forced to agree that we would never sell a controlling stake to anyone in the industry. Had to promise our company would not enter a number of markets.

Learnt a hell of a lot during all those talks.

Earlier today…

Board: So Sam, can we make ceoGPT?

They’ve basically called him a liar and fired him.

The abruptness of it is shocking for such an upward company. Having led a tiny AI company myself from 2016-22…

The only thing I can think of is maybe they used training data without securing rights to use it? Thus invalidating their ownership of their own models. 🤣

eg someone is suing them, sama assured all was OK, but legal advice subsequently disagreed.

First person to lose their job because of AI being the CEO of the company that created it… probably not a great omen for the rest if us!

WorldCoin dude loses his gig leading world’s most invogue corporation.

sama fired?!

Did not see that one coming.

Swap the word “message” for “beam” to achieve extra clickbait spice.

I follow ~300 people and most nostr apps look like a dance floor under a strobe light whenever I scroll a feed.

Ive spent the past 36 hours thoroughly testing the new Nostr client Nostatum that Tatum and his team has been working on.

Got a full review here, including screenshots and unlock codes

Some highlights covered

- iOS zap functionality is super fast and self custodial

- Customized emoji reactions with layered branding is cool for organizations

- Drag and Drop list ordering

- Calendar Events (some bugs moving vs copying events to separate calendar)

- Podcast player and integrated stream to zap.stream in mobile version (Desktop not yet supported)

But does it scroll smooth?

Glorified canoes?

Here’s one that’s 100ft long and has a displacement of 200 tons. It has a range of 5,000 km.

It can carry 8,000,000 grams of cocaine at $100 per gram.

This one sub generates maybe $5bn of profit per year. For comparison Amazon Inc generates $4.3 bn of profit last year.

Yeah, it’s a problem.

MSFT should relaunch clippy powered by GPT-4 and unironically do marketing campaigns lionising a world where everyone has unlimited paperclips all working for their interests.

But they got no style. nostr:note1yr0leerlc2n3djglfk4330xjgykh7495fuda5cnlwcs2vrdmf39q0p5fx2

I see a Russian RAAS (ransomware-as-a-service) cybercrime group has filed an SEC complaint against one of their victims for failing to publicly disclose a data breach.

One of the things I’m most worried about for later part of 21st century, isn’t climate change or AI, or WW3, it’s that organised crime is the real exponential threat.

The Cartels are operating intercontinental submarines, and Russian cybercriminals are co-opting federal agencies.

Collective blackmail by enemy states is the basis of mutually assured destruction, but not sure how collective blackmail will pan out with transnational criminals?

How do you cope with a “we will release our virus” type of blackmail, if the attack surface is as small as a crime group? Not good.

Seems the TikTok algorithm is poisonous after all. How to unwrap that tentacle in a democratic system?

Obsolescence.

Someone is eventually going to build an integrated social-wallet app, but it’s probably 10x easier to start with the wallet.

It’s her arms in the mirror if anyone is wondering.

Your eyes / brain do the same thing, but 50x funkier. Your vision only sees colour in the centre (+/- 10° arc), but the centre is blind in low light. In a dark room you can’t see things by looking AT them, you have to look 15° OFF them to see them! Try it.

You have an optical blind spot where your nose is, your brain just imagines what is there. Same for the peripheral of 60° - 75° which is actually the largest area of your field.

Most of your field of vision is literally imaginary.

“I saw it with my own eyeballs” is not the claim people think. And this is before we talk about how lossy human memory is and how memory recall actually overwrites!

We’re really messed up, quite a lot of bugs still. But evolution was a work in progress and did a pretty awesome job to make all this cool stuff from supernova debris.

I would bet the American left it slightly to the right of the European right.

Americans still call those on the left Communists but still agree with European conservatives, and European left still call those on the right Nazi’s whilst also fawning over Dems.

Then European Conservatives and US Dems can’t even acknowledge one another exist, as they are basically antiparticles and would annihilate in a paradox on contact.

It’s 90% tribalism, 10% ideology, 0% common sense.

It’s worth remembering that you, yourself and everyone you know and see on TV is little more than a blob of cells burning sugar in a bone jar, pootling around a little spherical garden and counting down our 80 ish summers as we go.

No amount of money can buy you a ticket out, and even if it could, you would be mad to leave.

The only thing you really own, the only thing universe has really gifted to you, is some time.
