2 things:
Sentience will not be obtained by digital AI, re: Godel and Penrose. However, a sophisticated homunculi can be made, which derives its patterning on extant human generated data, which is what we currently have. Until we introduce unconstrained analog components... not possible.
Second, Oppenheimer said on his deathbed (to paraphrase) "The only way to prevent us destroying the world is to NOT try to stop it." He knew human nature. This is why crypto is so effective.. it isn't constrained. I think we need to fight constraints with every fiber in our being so we can emerge on the other side with a healthy world.
Indeed... PLUS Gold is papered about 150 times over. No cap. Silver is over 450. Times, not percent.
Those were peripherals.. H10 paper tape punch/reader or the H8-5 Serial I/O card (Cassette). They didn't have a card reader at first, just paper tape and cassette. I ran CP/M on mine, but its been a loooooong time :-) Take a look at the wikipedia article.. it has more than I remember about it!
It all depends on how the numbers are being reported and manipulated, right? We know they are screwing with BTC through futures markets and DeFi, plus a number of other tactics, however that cant hold if the majority of BTC price action is off exchange. You would get massive arbitrage, and suddenly the futures market would implode. This may be why they are trying so desperately to choke off fiat <> BTC gateways, as well as harass exchanges out of business.
That doesn't work if the fiat it's valued in loses its value substantively, or if the value of BTC futures unpegs from the derivatives market due to outside activity.
Can't create more RVN or Monero either, AFAIK
I've been using it since the 90s, and I think folks don't want to make it easy to use for ordinary people. Either for hubris reasons, or information warfare reasons. There were PGP plugins/apps in the late 90s and early 2000s that worked seamlessly... they vanished from the major clients and providers.
I'm likely the oldest person in this thread, as I started this journey in 1977. I went through Military service, then Academics (physics/mathematics), then bailed to work in the tech industry in the mid 90s and haven't looked back.
And I still do.
OG Internet guys like me (and presumably you) have nothing to fear, as long as we keep our bits flowing. Trust me. If you keep active, the mind stays sharp. I've been everything from Chief SysAdmin to Principle Engineer. It's yours to take it, keep it, and stay in it.
Youth is great, except they ALWAYS FORGET GODEL AND TURING. Damn. I have had to have the same conversation a bajillion times....
Mine was a Heathkit H8... so.... you be a youngin :-)
They're terrified, I think because the dollar is about to collapse, or at least lose a lot of value in the ForEX. BRICS rolled out recently, and their moves using the USD fiat financial system are resulting in their own downfall, even while they are attacking crypto with every tool in their arsenal.
You can't beat technology, ultimately. Its just a question of when they will fail, and how much it will cost.
The interesting thing people forget tho, is that a weak dollar means manufacturing will come back to the US. And of course they can't have that, even tho its starting to happen already.
Its all a house of cards....
Now, just get your metadata sorted here: https://metadata.nostr.com/
And you'll be all set. If you're using a web client, get nos2x or similar. :-)
Simpler onramping means more interactivity. It took me 15 minutes and only 2 or three self taught moments to get a nostr web client going fully with metadata (sans zap) on a web client from knowing zero about it, so thats pretty good, considering the RTFM culture in dev. It would be better if appdev folks could package all of this up in a bundle in one place and give extremely good guidelines. Yes, smart people will figure it out, however there is a lot of impatience out there, even among those who we'd like to be a part of this.
In addition, I think web clients are a crucial part of the ecosystem to provide access and third party tools. Relays are still a bit gray in terms of which ones to look at, to join and etc so some sort of directory with details (yes I know there are directories, but few details exist with which to make choices) would be another improvement.
Basically the "M" part of "RTFM" should be better :-)
So... why do people say that BTC is volatile? The fluctuating price relative to the dollar likely means that USD (and other fiat, and fiat valued markets) is volatile, especially since BTC is backed by miners, energy and utility instead of politics.

Happy cooking! :-)
I *highly* recommend you try the french method, at least for when you want 100% amazing eggs.
1. whisk eggs with a fork in a bowl with a dollop of cream.
2. pour eggs into a small saucepan which has been buttered heavily, and is on very low heat
3. Get a rubber/silicone spatula and gently stir the eggs around the sauce pan constantly, scraping the bottom of the pan every revolution
Yes this will take a lot more time, but when you see the sudden transformation of the eggs into perfect, golden yellow curds, I think you will thank me! It may not be your go to, but Im guessing you'll use it for your occasionals. ;-)
