nostr:npub1wmpnsjsyegt5u04yjxuevpmjdue0zzq293lvdv5yfml5pyne5mjsghu558 homeschool mom to 5 girls. Oldest is now 13, youngest 2.

As my eldest approached "reading" age (she was 5) she came to me and asked me to teach her to read and write. I had difficulty finding material that did not clash with my values and that had a classical educational vibe to it, I dislike overly colourful material and prefer that my children show their own creativity through their learning by using colour or even no colour if they prefer.

I started designing worksheets for her by hand and she immediately absorbed them as I designed them. It evolved into an entire workbook of about 100 pages. It worked so well I wanted to preserve it for our other 2 children at the time (had two more) which meant I would need to digitize the worksheets. At the time I had no knowledge of digital software but was eager enough to learn. I used Libre Office draw and later on Inkscape to design the workbook. I started selling my workbook to other moms in pdf format and print, which was in my native language Afrikaans. I had moms asking me for an English version which I made. My books grew into three more workbooks as well as a reader (not available in English yet). I'm not as fluent in English as I'd like to be, but luckily my husband is and he edits all my books for me.

As of this year I opened up all my books for free and those that wish to support my work can do so in SATS. No donation is too small, every sat is appreciated. It is very scary to open your life's work out there for free but as being part of an open source community I feel this is my way of giving back.

I'm busy revamping and updating all my books and then uploading them to my websites, semcomama.co.za and semcomama.npub.pro

Check it out if you'd wish to add me to your list.

I am not a teacher and have no degree or diploma in education. Just a mom that had difficulty finding classical education workbooks to help my daughter learn to read and write.

Since 2024 my digital books are available for free (no strings attached) for anyone to use.

Enjoy!

I'm looking for a Woocommerce like feature where I can upload my digital workbooks to. My workbooks are currently in pdf format, so far could not find a Nostr platform that I can upload files to that can be downloaded and printed (like pdf for instance). My is available for free and people can donate if they wish to support my work, so no need for shipping/payments ect.

Masculinity is under attack lately. But I like masculinity actually.

I know, shocker.

The fact that so few U.S. presidential or vice presidential candidates have had beards in modern history is funny to me. I think men usually look better with facial hair, and the older they get the more likely that is. 20-somthing or 30-something strong jaw dudes often look great without facial hair. But when men are 50 or 60 or whatever, that salt-and-pepper beard is so rad and almost always beats the no-beard weak-chin look. I actually think it's weird that neither Biden nor Trump have a beard. JD Vance looks like shit without a beard. Growing a beard is the best move he ever made, imo. And yet the media is like, "A vice president candidate with a beard?"

Masculinity can be rough around the edges, but that's what we need sometimes. It's usually balanced by other societal aspects. In some societies it gets extreme and needs to be pushed back on. My husband has a temper, but his temper is part of his power and why he impacts the world to the extent that he does. So when I interact with his temper, it's not about eliminating it, but rather it's about appreciating it but making sure it's directed in the right direction.

Masculinity and femininity are good. They don't need to be forced. Nature is diverse but society tries to categorize nature into narrower categories. Feminine men and masculine women are cool too. But that doesn't change the fact that masculine men and feminine women are also cool.

I grew up kickboxing and submission grappling. I'm a tomboy. I'm a feminist in terms of promoting equal gender rights. But at the end of the day, I appreciate masculine men. I was never attracted to men who were weaker than me in any capacity, but rather was always attracted to men with gravitas.

The easiest approach to life is to 1) respect biology as it is but then 2) also appreciate the divergences that inherently exist within it.

Trying to equalize nature is to fight against it. And yet trying to eliminate the diversify of nature is also to fight against it.

Nature is fascinating, and I do my best to appreciate it.

It so much easier to respect a man with a beard. I prefer a beard!

Agree. Real life started the day my first was born. Currently standing on 5, all girls and truly blessed.

I made a hen to hold the eggs my hens lay 😁 . Holding 36 eggs and definitely space for a few more. Chickens are awesome and sewing is fun!

Tutorial to follow soon...

I'm there as well. Started my business on Facebook 7/8 years ago. Did very well in the beginning but I was never comfortable with the way it worked, I rarely used it as a "social" platform.

In the end the algorithm killed my business and me. It was so exhausting. For the first time I now have a platform where I feel comfortable to share and social on. I like to share my adventures with others and finally found my people.

Took the plunge and deleted my FB and IG yesterday and it's so freeing!

Deleted my Facebook (and IG) today.

Been wanting to this for a very long time, but my business held me back, as well as a very, very small community of people I enjoyed at times. (Mostly sewing and self suffiency groups.)

My husband got me onto Nostr and said to check it out and that with time like minded people will come as well. Don't get me wrong I enjoy Bitcoin as much as any Nostrich, but I get inspired by seeing what other people craft and brew.

I started with Nostr somewhere last year but I kind of forgot about it after awhile. But when I came back two weeks ago, I found the environment so refreshing and inviting, now I'm here to stay! Already found a few homesteaders and crafters to follow πŸ€— .

Welcome to me on Nostr and Goodbye FB!

My beautiful Pekin bantam hen finally hatched her first babies! πŸ˜„ I'm so proud of her. She is already a fantastic mother and still sitting patiently on the rest of her clutch.

Experiencing the raw, undisturbed way of nature is so beautiful and peaceful. Bitcoin opened up a lifestyle that would not have been possible any other way. Step by step building a life towards self suffiency.

Thank you so much!! I LOVE them and this happened at a time where I needed a little love πŸ’œπŸ«‚. #thebitcoinpainter #painting #artstr

This looks awesome! Love it.

And making shade for the kids and dogs πŸ˜‰

Thanks! It was sew much fun and I wear it almost daily πŸ˜‚

After many hours of cutting and sewing and 90 blocks later, I'm more than satisfied with the end result!

What girl doesn't love a swirly skirt, plus it has pockets 😁!

I only used scrap and leftover fabric and most of it was gifted to me.

nostr:npub1gscnk7wlcvcruw7scjhwpjrja94gfu369fzkyje6kcc0yn6rqyhscqtpjp is correct and ill add some nuance

Seed oils *RAW* aren’t too bad in small quantities.

-Plants dont want you to eat the seed, (its their reproductive method) so they have interesting ways to discourage foraging. (Toxins)

The single biggest issue with β€œseed” oils is that their expensive to refine.

-Cold pressing is time consuming and expensive in commercial quantities so instead they boil the seeds and drain off the oil. (damages the fat and effectively makes it rancid and toxic)

Seed oils are Omega-9 and are delicate.

-They spoil quickly even in the refrigerator and are often refined with detergent during processing to remove toxins that would otherwise make them taste bitter.

I could go on but you get the gist.

Just buy oils that are omega 3 or 6 and keep the omega 9s in your diet in the form of raw nuts. Don’t cook with them. (Or buy baked nuts, same problem)

Cook with beef fat/tallow. Cheaper, healthier and delicious.

Eco-Menstrual Cloth Pads

Menstruation (periods) is a very personal and sensitive thing for women. And so should the products be that we use.

Disposable period products is full of chemicals, they take forever to decompose and less face it, they are very uncomfortable. I know with fast paced living it's probably easier but it impacts your health.

Reusable products is super easy to use, so much cheaper and self-sufficient. It's also one of those things you can do yourself!

Check out my video if you are interested in making some reusable cloth pads at home.
