I made more money on Nostr than on twitter for just one month since twitter introduced payments for creators: January.

In that month I shared a video on here which went semi viral (?) - where I trolled a crypto conference.

It’s usually a couple of generous zappers who make up the lions share of payments: Pareto principle stuff.

I get more money on posts where I say “please zap” and if I forget to mention that on pieces of work, people forget or simply don’t.

For the people saying I need to engage more on Nostr, that’s not quite right because Nostr doesn’t directly reward engagement.

And for those saying oh I can HODL the zaps because they’ll go up in value,

with respect, that’s not at all rational or realistic. We’ve all got to eat and pay bills!

And for those saying “oh well here it’s btc, twitter is fiat”… sure but we do still live in a very fiat world and most bitcoiners don’t earn btc, they buy bitcoin.

I am one of very very few Bitcoiners who lives on a full bitcoin standard and earns btc so I appreciate this more than most!

I’m gonna keep sharing my twitter and Nostr stats because I’m sure it’s resonating with some people.

The sentiment is good, and we need a way of protecting user privacy and data. The problem with the way apple decides whether or not they’re collecting data and what counts as third party.

If an app developer doesn’t look at how their app is used then it won’t improve as fast as the apps that collect a lot of analytics. Where are we losing users, does this new design work better, which of these two ways of doing something is better. That is all user data collection, even if it is never used to for ads or commercially.

The other issue is third party data sharing. Under apple’s rules using a sass analytics service is considered exactly the same thing as selling all user data to data brokers for resale. It’s insane. The cost of running everything without any sass services is really high. And for what? Posthog and others committed to not using or selling their customer data.

With Nos we run our own notification system which talks directly to apple, but all apps that use a service for notifications are sharing data with third parties.

I think most developers lie or ignore apple’s rules about hosted sass services. But that just means they’re vulnerable to being taken down.

So yes. Don’t collect what you don’t need for bug / crash reporting, don’t sell data or give it away. But current appstore rules don’t really cover those cases at all.

I would imagine, a lot of talk and a little bit cult.

No doubt he has accomplished a lot in his life, he could have quit after making tens of millions from being forced out of the precursor to PayPal.

That being said, his current business is being somewhat propped up by govt subsidies, regulatory favoritism, and being a defense contractor. He played the Fiat game incredibly well. If he is a historical figure, it is due to the environments of his time.

Most historical figures are not special, they happen to be the right person at the right time.

I have never been a fan of that guy. Though i can appreciate the technological acomplishments of his company, I do not agree with their motives or goals.

However, I've heard plenty of prominent Nostr figures talking about the future of Nostr potentially being in premium nodes, partly for the same reason to curb the bot problem... so really, what's the difference.

I think both of you have a point and there is a value in minimalism, but for me I enjoy the combination of having really portable way to read books without distraction and at the same time having a feeling that I have a nice library of books that I own, I can always look at and I can always check remember the books I read and check through books to read next.
