₿itcoin thrives and gets stronger when under attack by nation states, like China. Monero would, poof, disappear.

I want ₿itcoin’s base layer to be an open book for all to read. Transparency. Full audit every 10 minutes. Tik tok, baby.

2. Figuring out how to use equivalent privacy tools on bitcoin

My skepticism boils down to “i would rather use monero in every situation i can think of”

I can’t think of a use case where Bitcoin performs better than Monero except perhaps as a speculative asset. But I don’t really need a speculative asset, I just want to transact.

Every time I find a neovim plugin I go to the author's dotfiles repository on GitHub and find the most absurd setup with dozens of other plugins I've never heard about, all used very casually, as if everything was common and fine. Neovim also has a new package manager that is treated by everybody as the default every two months.

"What is this package manager? I've never heard of it, I thought the latest one was ..., which I was already not using."

Then I click on it and it has like 7 thousands GitHub stars.

At a small Princeton event last week, among other panels and speeches, Carole House spoke about censoring bitcoin.

She is the former director of cybersecurity for the White House National Security Council, and prior to that was at FinCEN focusing on cryptocurrencies, and prior to that was in the military.

Some of her main points:

-Energy-related regulation may push some hash rate outside of the U.S., whereas she would rather see more of it in the U.S. so that they can force miners to censor the network on the base layer. She also views international cooperation as a necessary component for successful censorship. She also wants stakers to be forced to censor their PoS networks.

-It's not just about telling miners not to mine certain transactions, but to not even build atop blocks that have non-compliant transactions, so that those transactions don't get anywhere in the chain. A 51% attack, in other words. Her main concern is censoring states like North Korea from being able to participate in the network.

The event was interesting because there were several very different perspectives. On one hand there was Roya Mahboob talking about using bitcoin in Afghanistan, followed by Troy Cross, Craig Warmke, and Natalie Smolenski talking about the importance of bitcoin from an ethical perspective. On the other hand, there were panels about Bored Apes and speeches about how to censor the networks.

Stupid things will always get more money. What Nostr fixes is not bell curves and human nature. Nostr makes sure smart things can also get money, anyone can follow smart money they choose, and smart things can't be censored.

So no , i'm not concerned. I hope more outrage attracts people to Nostr.

Disagree. There is no kind of bad mechanism pushing sensationalism here, no engagement farming, no algorithm used, except for honest and well written words. Sensationalist hot takes with value will always get value back. Zaps, boosts, comments... that's how it SHOULD work
