We had our first company contact us regarding ID impersonation at Nostr Plebs. After verifying the information received, the account in question was suspended. The company then asked us how to setup their own NIP-05 ID on their own domain. 👀 They're coming.

Nostriches… I could use your help. My wife just found out that I started #[0] She’s worried that between being a full time physician, working on a healthcare startup, and having a newborn and 3 other kids that I won’t have time for this. She doesn’t realize that I’m not alone at NR, and that we have a ton of support from the Nostr community.

I would have been okay with someone registering these names and using them for specific purposes, such as posting Tesla car facts or Nikola Tesla facts or someone that's a YouTuber. These are clear use cases. However, when this person registers 8 IDs on our platform, it's a clear case that these are not the intentions. Furthermore, the Tesla npub has been changed to reflect the name Tesla Motors.

I have always tried to hold Nostr Plebs to the highest degree of customer support and transparency. I have always tried to do right by the community. I have always tried to do right for the Nostr Plebs brand. I said that in the future, NIP-05 ID providers would be judged and scrutinized based on their reputation.

It seems like that future is now. Nostr Plebs will stand for integrity and authenticity. Though again, we are not a verification service, but that doesn't mean that we won't hold ourselves to any sort of standards.

We have suspended the IDs apple@nostrplebs.com, tesla@nostrplebs.com and youtube@nostrplebs.com due to these accounts having profiles that try to partially impersonate the companies and seem to be bought for the sole purpose of resale value. We will open up these names later for legitimate use. We are also investigating another 4-5 accounts.
