what if.. forget about STUN for a second, it isn't gonna work for most peers (esp mobile carrier networks). You could support ipv* by 'relays' running coturn and forcing the use of the turn server vs. stun would not expose IP info between the peers. Coturn has all the stun options, so if a peer was willing, they could opt in to the IP disclosure and achieve a true P2P connection.

multi hops could also be implemented, by using wireguard networks with relays being a 'hop' server.

I have implemented the calling service in 0xchat, but using the traditional technical solution:

Relay signaling+WebRTC+STUN+TURN.

Normally, I release a new version of #0xchat every month (excluding bug fix versions). Each one comes with a significant surprise. It’s the end of the month again, and the v1.2.1 beta update is about to arrive. :)

We are beginning the development process for transmitting Nostr events in a peer-to-peer fashion, away from relays. This will start with Gift-wrapped DMs, Private Attachments, Private zaps, Private Text Notes, and Private Reactions; and will be the preferred transmission choice if both users are online, falling back to relays when they are not. Our Push Notification system already transmitted over 500,000 GiftWrapped Nostr events that relays will never see. With a full P2P this will get even better and will open the doors for voice and video calls directly inside Amethyst. Side-stepping relays won't be easy or quick. And I am sure we will get strong pushback from relay operators. But we will get there. And while this might start as an Amethyst feature, it will be a NIP and other clients will be able to join the privacy train.

Nostr is just starting.

Short-form content is typically different from long-form content. It’s quick thoughts or updates, meant for quick reading. I rarely read short content twice; editing them is pointless. If your content has mistakes, just delete it and post a new one.

I am considering enabling Amethyst to write a replaceable kind 1 (new kind:30111) to allow users to edit their past posts at will.

It would work in a similar way Habla News works, but using Kind 1's style of small posts instead of markdown and long-form content of kind:30023.

Of course, we could also write kind:30023 (blog posts) directly, but it would pollute most of the Blogging interfaces with short posts.

What do you all think?

How come more clients don’t show wallet balances? It works with Alby, not sure if it works with generic NWC? Should, right?

Today marks the beginning of a new era for Nostr Android. A native signing app (Amber) can now store the keys while every other Nostr app focuses on their own use cases. The time of inserting your private key in every native app is over.

Well, at least technically over. Consider this a test release. Bugs are expected.

We hope other Nostr apps for Android follow the same path and stop storing a private key with their own databases. And, hopefully, iOS apps will follow soon.

I think this is a bit difficult for Appstore reviews. If the client allows third-party logins, Apple will require the use of 'Login with Apple ID'. :)

The image is p2p encrypted in DM, then uploaded to the image server

I don't know if it makes sense to prevent others from broadcasting, but if it is necessary for your relay, you can allow only the receiver to rebroadcast -the receiver is a real user in the gift wrapped event.

Sorry for not looking into nip42 in depth, but from what I have seen, doesn't 'AUTH' mean authorizing the entire socket connection? This implies that by authorizing with the real pubkey, all events sent during the socket connection process, including those signed with a random key(gift wrapped events), are also authorized

For Twitter you can choose to get a notification for all posts by a specific user who you want to see all of their tweets. It’s useful I you want to get notifications for public service announcements, like fire or storm alerts. Or I guess if you want to really know when somebody who doesn’t post often posts.

This would be a useful feature to have in nostr, and we’ve got lists, so I’m curious if any apps have been using a specific list id for this?
