Chickens free ranging in olive groves lay great eggs, fertilise the soil, restore biodiversity and keep the cash flow. going when olives are on alternate fruiting

Just emerging from a little rabbit hole about image metadata, prompted by the message that pops up after uploading images to @Nostrbuild

It seems if you want to remove metadata yourself, Exiftool is the beast to use. It's a command line tool that "everybody" raves about. Definitely super speedy and more thorough than a couple of GUI options I tried, like ImageOptim.

Having said that, I'm curious about how Nostrbuild strip metadata, because the message from a jpg file they upload says something like

{"date:create":"2024-08-27T12:46:16+00:00","date:modify":"2024-08-27T12:46:16+00:00","jpeg:colorspace":"2","jpeg:sampling-factor":"2x2,1x1,1x1"}

That is nothing compared to what Exiftool leaves, or sips or mdls reveal.

Have you guys found some extra juice for stripping metadata or is that message a redacted version?

Spain is losing its tiny mind, and it's health, moving away from olive oil over to sunflower oil.

It's all down to price of course. I firmly believe that prices of olive oil need to be higher to keep the industry sustainable, but with recent big drops in supply, it's clearly too much of a price hike, too soon.

The govt tried to intervene and dropped the VAT, whoopee, but that did nothing. The supermarkets have been quite socially responsible and are selling oil at what must be below market rate. Or they are getting back door subsidies, or they are including non virgin olive oil in their numbers. But whatever the shenanigans it's not keeping the country on EVOO..

Slowly, slowly, suddenly the balance has flipped away from a staple health food for centuries to a cheap and cheerless alternative. Maybe it will slip back?

Got to make the small olive growers profitable without having to gouge the customer. It's always been so. That's where a mobile chicken farm on an olive grove shines, as I intend to prove..Double incentivised now to make it work.

I’ve got a question for folks here. The definition of unconference I’ve used for a couple decades before getting involved in nostr is something similar to what we see the Wikipedia page.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unconference

When people arrive at the event they propose sessions and put them on post it notes and then there are many many rooms where discussions happen. There’s no schedule ahead of time, stage, presentations, or big screens. Sometimes there’s a mic and speaker that’s passed around if the groups get too large for every to hear.

It’s something similar but much better organized than what we did the second day at Nostriga in the DIY space.

To me there are things these open space style unconferences are good at, discussions, connections, networking, hashing out issues as a community, forming working groups on specific topics. They’re not great at informing where one person is trying to communicate a topic or project. A talk on a stage can do a better job of that.

I was expecting something more conversational where many people might have come to the event with topics of sessions they’d like to do, but there was no fixed schedule ahead of time.

I’ve heard many people say nostr* is an unconference. So clearly this word has the meaning of an event like nostr* events. But from the communities I’m coming from what we’ve been having in Nostr are conferences with talks, panels, and workshops. And a bit of open spaces discussions.

So my question is what is a conference if Nostriga was an unconference, what’s a conference? How is it different and what makes the one a conference and the other an unconference.

To me, I’d like us to have closer to 50/50 time and space between speakers on stages conference and group discussions unconference. I get a lot out of the talks and panels and enjoy doing them.

So. What’s a conference is Nostriga was an unconference?

You are asking some hard questions, old timer! Coming on here with your history books. :) Maybe it's like much language, words like unconference have evolved while we werent looking.

Security clueless on the front end for sure. I asked the local bank teller to show me how the app worked with the different reference numbers they had given me. They were very patient, as was I, until it came to the password reset step. I was literally wtf are you kidding me when they told me to put in a password. You know, something like Juanmadrid2024.

France has an institution known as the Foreign Legion. It's quite a reliable indicator of how far the French government will go to get their way. :)

In amethyst looks like the URL of the image got split and never uploaded. Here's my second attempt to show off my new internet, the Nostr way.

apps and social media in their own stack. The beauty of Nostr is we can post on any nostr client, each with their own features to discover. And because of the community dynamic, we are all incentivised to share findings so they all end up as Twittrr killers.

Ditto the apps lining up to do the work of creating and collating the content to share on social media.

I'm missing a Nostr Google killer though. I guess there is a nostr ai search engine beast indexing answers to questions somewhere in the works? I use Venice.ai at the moment, a freedom version, it has a way to go though.

!

Absolutely. I studied economics at school and university and never understood how any of it related to my world. Turns out there was nothing to understand in their teachings It was mostly a bit of truth sprinkled into a pot of invented theoretical nonsense, to create an aura of superiority around the economists. End result, we normies think it is best to just leave it to them clever bastards who read the Financial Times, to run things.

In other words the dumb thing about me was me giving those teachers my time to sit through their drivel. I'm sure I'm not the only one that Bitcoin has awoken though, and literally screw all Keynsian economics teachers! They are propagandist, useful idiots.

Good morning btw :)

Nostr apps in the dock ready and waiting for daily action. Easy to visualise the alternative internet building.

Listening to Obi of Fedi on TFTC https://www.tftc.io/tftc-decentralized-super-app-obi-nwosu/?ref=the-difficulty-adjustment-newsletter

Nostr better be ready for another influx of users. Ex X users are going to be swamped by the # Fedi newcomers.

Bitcoin development seems really lame now haha The levels above the base chain are where the exciting moves are all at.

Obi is dropping so many truth bombs.

It's huge recognising that for most of the world, handing over a 10$ bill for coffee and not being too concerned about the change, is not an option. Poverty is all- consuming.

Maybe Bitcoin development has been the preserve of the wealthy, so far, but its use as a medium of exchange in tandem with general freedom tech is going to be driven by the poorer of the world.

And the beauty is that the rich are incentivised to put their bitcoin to work to release so much human potential while keeping their bitcoin intact.

It is exhausting watching every penny. It is such a waste of human capital when so many don't have savings or access to funds because it has been rigged that relatively few can create enough wealth from their toils.

Something like that, anyway.

Built my own Nostr fan club today. Apps to follow.

Put proton apps in a grid.

Ready for action now, out the way of Google at least..

The nitpicking was prompted by a Nostrasia interview with Stewart Mackenzie. Apologies if I get the lingo wrapped around my neck, but I think he said that unless you can show him that the path is from private key to private key, don't even think about calling the network censorship resistant. And he was very critical about IP addresses too. Probably best to listen to him! His benchmark is a state attack, rather than keeping out Johnny Rotten Hacker. Not a bad height to set for a bar, though!

In 2020 I moved on from a line of work I had been in for 30 years. I never think about that job consciously, but now and again I have horrendous nightmares, where a job goes horribly wrong, like so badly wrong it is unreal. Apparently that isn't uncommon when people retire. I'm not even retired though.

Big time Twitter user til 2014 when the hooligans started to turn up. Tried it again wth Elon but I could feel the stress drain away when I rage quit :) FaceBook never seen the point. Except whenever I saw friends posing hand in hand lovey dovey you knew that was the signal their marriage was on the rocks!
