Yes! Ha. Great weekend β‘οΈβ οΈ Feeedom tech is addictive. So liberating to run your own Nodes and decentralized/censorship resistant programs.
I did noting too. π
Yes but even further... firmware, updates, and the kernel. Are those lower levels of code abstractions open sourced? It's a scale. A nefarious kernel attack is one of the most overlooked/difficult places.
Many "open source" projects only "open source" some parts of their project and then get called out on it afterwards.
From here you can even go deeper... is the hardware build auditable and all of the first layer abstractions? Likely not. So you have to trust the kernel implementations and Nvidia or whomever builf the hardware too.
Regardless, Satoshi remaining anon and disappearing only makes the project stronger Ina sense.
I donβt buy it. Personally, I believe Len Sassaman was probably Satoshi.
A govt initiative would have had more participants so more people who would leak or fight over (spend) some of the coins. Sassaman died around the time that Satoshi disappeared.
The paper referred to in that report was a David Chaum-type ecash system. Nothing like bitcoin. Sassaman was one of the OG cypherpunks so he would have been familiar with Adamβs hashcash / proof of work, etc.
Itβs more likely Sassaman might disguise his name as Satoshi Nakamoto rather than a guy named Tatsuiaki Okamoto (who probably would have used βJohn Smilthβ).
More on Sassaman:

Yeah. The len sassaman thread is compelling. As is Dorian and Hal angle.
Makes you wonder though. Ina web of cloak and daggers who was working for who's behalf.
It's quaint to believe it was all altruistic super shadowy coders in their basements but the truth could be a bit more... organized?
We're also forgetting that there was little foresight that even if such a decentralized monetary open sourced program COULD be put together that it would catch on and succeed.
"Open source" is a phrase I feel is about to be mass co-opted.
Just like "decentralized". Just like "crypto".
Open source is a scale/spectrum. And too many quasi or tenuous 'open source' projects are using it liberally.
Just because you have some code on github doesn't make it 'open sourced'.

Cool weekend of learning and testing! β οΈβ‘οΈ
-Went down the Bisq rabbit hole. π #RunningBisq
-Downloaded Core and synced a node. #RunningBitcoin
-Came across some Core devs I didn't know about. π
Now I'm curious:
-'PGP' key encryption. Is this still being used? What are some practical applications of it? I also run SimpleX so is this preferred? I see more and more devs and plebs indicating that they have a PGP.... π€π
-Bisq has a large spread of about 4 or 5% and LOW liquidity in my national currency. Considering this, I'm slightly surprised more people aren't using Bisq to arbitrage. Why not? I can't see why a large exchange might not do this and provide liquidity for a 5% fee. π€ I know that selling BTC back to national fiat isn't "the way" but there are some strong arbitrage incentives. nostr:npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6
π
Can some devs and backend talent explain if Bisq is legit under the hood?! What are the vulnerabilities or points of failure/rugpull/scam/nefarious actions? Seems like some levels of trust are involved at strategic points but I could use help understanding when and how. ππ€ Feels like banking info and KYC is being exposed at some point. (?)
Going to see what old threads I can find but any help π¦ is appreciated!

Figured it out. Bisq seems cool but it's essentially a facilitator of decentralized P2P private transactions. And going to/fro fiat will KYC yourself.
So looking at any methods to mitigate. Some people suggested using Strike. So looking into this now... lol.
Bircoin rabbit hole never ends.

This is your periodic reminder to install Amethyst (and all other Nostr clients) through Obtainium instead of Google's PlayStore.
