The original zap feature doesn’t fit that description as the content was not purchased. It was public, zaps were like micro donations. Apple is likely afraid of BTC circumventing their ability to charge fees entirely. An interesting test is to submit a new app, with the old feature enabled but that gives 30% of the BTC to Apple.

But the emoji is posted inside the app. It’s a gray area.

You are a man of good heart, I know that, but you are gradually yielding to centralization in order to keep your client standing within the centralized systems. I don't mean any harm when I say what I say, and I can't blame you for your decisions, but I won't pretend to like it.

Remember when a massive influx of new #Nostr users from Android brought relays to their knees? Me neither, because it only happened when Damus hit the Apple App Store. The gloating from Android fanbois is shortsighted and completely misses the bigger picture. Mass adoption of Nostr and bitcoin won’t happen without iPhone App Store, or at least will happen much more slowly.

Why am I speaking at the #Bitcoin2023 confernece?

1. My commitment to civil liberties. Bitcoin is a bulwark against the ever-intensifying surveillance and control of our private financial lives.

2. To educate myself on the innovations in payments, custody, and computing built around this open-source protocol. I want America to remain the leader in this important area of digital infrastructure.

3. Because as the old monetary system becomes increasingly unstable, dysfunctional, and corrupt, I want to understand what the alternatives, or maybe an ecosystem of alternatives, could be.

I don't understand why they are so against Zaps?

For now I am just updating the zap button to show the customize zap view, with wording that says “zap bob” to make it clear you’re definitely not zapping a note. Will also have to remove the orange highlight on the zap button, zap listing on notes, and total zap amount on notes. Will also have to remove zap replies / zapvertising. At the end the zap button on notes will only be a shortcut for zapping users.
