Engineer, Dad, Maker, Artist, Ballroom Dancer, Entrepreneur, Axe-flinger... I make chainmaille and wire sculpture, 3d print toys my kids love to lose, profile my own throwing axes, rebuild bits of my moldering Victorian home, and generally tinker with everything from computers to woodworking to gmrs radio(WRON559). I owned an industrial automation consulting firm for 20 years, and helped found the amazing Tech Valley Center of Gravity, makerspace and home away from home to my tribe... #fedi22

It’s not Republican versus Democrat, It’s Nobility Versus Peasants

Everybody's talking about how the president pardoned his son. That's corruption, sure, but it's completely understandable corruption. Any of us might have made the same choice, in that position. Please give me a break with the "but he promised not to, he's a liar" bullshit. Of course he's a liar, he's a politician. How many other campaign trail promises has he, and every politician in history, broken?

So what you want to do is drive a car that can take control away from you with its auto-drive, has a persistent data connection to make it easier to hack, and has doors and windows that are designed to make it really hard to get out in an emergency!

For pity's sake, can startups stop naming every mobile app that connects to anything "Connect"?!?!?

Folks, if it's on a phone, we already know it's gonna connect to *something*. Throw us a bone here!

The drop-dead technical problems of this week are making me nostalgic for the drop-dead technical problems of last week...

A ridiculous, wonderful thing I learned today:

Duolingo now offers a course in *Klingon*!

I only saw it flash out of the corner of my eye, but I'd swear the graphics program I use to transfer screenshots to documents just asked me, "Do you EVER want to save your work?"

The best laid plans...

The sandwich is a good distraction from the journey but sometimes one has to make choices about the journey itself. Maybe I should have said “wider picture” instead of “long term”? I dunno.

nostr:npub1mlsm5mv52wg0ppu8nsxwv6fsuls28ht0480480kd4cju28fu356s0fl9pg I think the sandwich became too much of a metaphor. I was just saying that rituals give us that momentary endorphin boost of accomplishment, which I believe is what you were looking for in the first place.

And I like sandwiches, so my ritual is that...

nostr:npub144umq2dp88td86x4l9xtk4vaasgafnc7q2yqh4qvf0tzc4zyfdgq98qcsm long term I think the solution is to get out from under the website project. That could happen but it won’t be immediate and I’ll probably still be on the hook when things go wrong.

nostr:npub1mlsm5mv52wg0ppu8nsxwv6fsuls28ht0480480kd4cju28fu356s0fl9pg Long term solutions are for suckers. By the time you get to long term, your environment has changed so much that the "solution" is a trivial part of the overall worry-scape!

I try to focus on finding content on the journey...

That moment you realize that on 95 degree Friday, you forgot to turn off the air conditioning in your office, so on 68 degree Monday, there are icicles on your monitors...

You might be working a loser of a contract when one of the project managers calls a meeting entitled:

"The Cursed Project"...
