I suppose I do not want to abandon the idea of collective (quality) education. Quickly can become an even more stratified society if education becomes another separation between individuals rather than ties that bind us. Private sector, home schooling….fine. There’s a whole host of under educated kids, what’s that doing to our society?? If we could make positive changes to public schooling I think it would be worthwhile.

You're confusing your ideal with the reality. Public school is a daycare with worksheets. Teachers don't build their own curriculums. They teach from a book. They're just following a program.

Yes, there are some incredible educators out there. They get to see your student for 1 year. If your student is lucky, they'll find a second great teacher, but that's not the case for most.

Yes. I know lots of teachers. At every level actually. Elementary, middle and high school teachers.

I even know university professors. I know what they make... I'm utterly underwhelmed by the "teachers don't make enough" argument.

We throw 10's of thousands of dollars per student. Every state does. It's not a funding issue and it's not a salary issue. Private sector does much more with much less. Ask any entrepreneur.

The difference is in motivation. You need motivated teachers and motivated students. Our system kills the motivation in both. You get shitty teachers, shitty students and predictably shitty results.

What happened to all the fireflies?

Nonsense. The teachers don't care enough. They work 9 months of the year and make comparable white color salaries to those working 12 months.

No one else gets paid this well to suck at their jobs that badly. Teachers get paid too much if you ask me. They're a protected political class.

Our education system does not have a lack of money.
