After the thunderstorms rolled past yesterday morning I was in the greenhouse to pick when I found this monster of a dragonfly trying to find its way out. I caught it and carried it outside where it let me get some shots of it before it flitted off across the garden. I don't often see them that big around the farm so this was pretty cool, plus getting to hold it. The coloring was really nifty and I can't remember seeing the pattern before around here.

Yesterday morning we got 4 hours of rain which dropped .19" and kept the temps nice and cool. I got a number of things harvested in the afternoon with a nice 18 pounds of cabbage, 7 pounds of beets, and the removal of the bug eaten kale. Took a look around after dark and found I have a veritable herd of barn spiders all around the farm. (♫The freaks come out at night♫ keeps repeating in my head.)

The weather was a bust yesterday as we were supposed to get rain. I got spit on once and that was it, but it kept the temps a bit cooler and not nearly the 100F predicted. Got my harvests done early then watched a bunch of the Olympics during the day as I worked on various tasks. The "friendly" match between Utd and Liverpool was a perfect portent of the coming season for Utd as they got blown out 3-0... sad for such a "big time" team.
Of course TODAY it's raining and the downpour is moving over now.

After taking the boys to Ninja Nation then going to brunch mid day yesterday we were home for the hottest part of the day, 106F. Like the masochist I am I went for a hike around the property in the heat and as I hiked down the trail near the base of the hill I came across a soccer ball sized wasp nest. Thankfully it wasn't fully stocked so I was able to remove it and burn it with fire in the fire pit. I really want to fine the bald faced hornet nest so I can eliminate them for sure.

Nifty, hadn't seen that breed before but they are quite similar to mine in color and growth rate. I love the heritage turkeys, they are all great at free ranging.

I love the barn #spiders. They took a while to make their prescences known but now have built some really nice webs and spend the nights stalking the masses of bugs that hit their webs. This one is rather smart I have to say. It built its web between the tool shed and the post for the gate such that I am still able to use the gate and walk beneath it without touching the web. Last night is was doing some repairs to the middle where I presume a bug had hit and popped some threads.

While I was picking peas for seeds yesterday morning a helicopter flew over slowly and then hovered to the south of the farm for a minute then slowly moved off to the east south east. At first I thought is was powerline inspections but there are none beneath the flight path so I think it might have been a fire danger flight. Not sure though.
Dug the last row of early potatoes and have 687 pounds. Popped open the bee hive in the afternoon and found they needed another super added on. It helped that they started with a full super on the bottom. I'm hoping to get one of the Flow frames for us this year.
